chain case oil

Just looking for a bit of help, I am new to sledding, picked up a 97 sx 700 last year and am just getting ready for the season, I have shanged the skid bearings cleaned the carbs, greased everythin, I would like to change the chaincase oil but can't find a drain and it smells like it has staight 90w in it, but have heard atf works as well , any suggestions?

welcome,drain bolt is inside the tunnle(look) and i would use a gear lube,synthetic 75w90 etc...

i would remove the cover pull chain and gears and give it all a good wash down,
 
Daman gave you very good advice. I remove the cover on the chaincase of each of my sleds every season so I can clean out any accumulation of sludge in the bottom of the chaincase. I wash the chaincase out with a light oil such as WD40, reassemble it then use a 75-80W synthetic gear oil. Changing the oil is not good enough, you need to remove the metal sludge buildup.
 
hey guys, going to chain my friends oil today but on his sled there is no dipstick just a fill cap. How much do these sleds take? On my doos and cats they have dipsticks. Thanks - JT

What sled??? have reverse??? all proaction chassis have a dip stick.
 
Chain case oil changed, suprisingly pretty clean in there, thanks for the help. I was doning a bit more pre season inspecting and found my belt has a small chunk missing, and the spare looks pretty used up, my question is I can't find any #'s on the belt to get a replacment.

It's just a 97 sx 700, it's old but stills runs pretty good for 15,000 k's and still no rebuild.
