Who has the best setup for a 2001 SXR-500. It's not my sled and the guy who owns this also has a 98' SRX. He loves the 500 but wants a bit more out of it. He has no idea what a tach is and will not bother with testing and all that. So, if you got a setup that works lets hear it. Doug

I put a stock viper set up from a 02 in my cousins 600 twin it halls. Got the idea from a friend who did it to his 500 it would hall.
i ran a modded vmaxjhons set-up on the one i had. made it a wicked corner to corner sled in the trails. i had a 01 sx500r also.
if he is looking for more top-end out of that sled though, he needs to put the 99 500 gear in there. the 2000-01 sx500r was geared down 1 tooth compared to the 99 and older in the pro action chassis. with stock gearing, it will top out at 80mph. with the 99 gearing it will hit over 90mph easy.

what two setups are you guys refering to? I only see two in the clutching page. They are at the bottom of the section. Are these the ones from Vmax John (have not heard that name in a few years, is he still around). thanks, Doug

same motor should work fine....unless gear is off
should be what you are looking for. judt make shure that the rollers in the primary clutch are the same on both sleds. on the 01 you need to change them.

OK, I found the setup. You mentioned the rollers above. I would assume, the rollers will be 14.5mm that page left off a spot for roller size.
vmaxjhons set up did not change the rollers on his as it already had the 14.5mm rollers. on the 2001 sx500r the rollers are larger so you need to change them out for the smaller ones for the clutch set-up to work properly. i substuted thundershift 40gram weights weighted the same as the 8ab (41gram) weights jhon used. used same helix as he did.
i did the substitution as i wanted weights that where easy to adjust as i did not want to be playing with rivits all the time.
