I set up my 2001 SX700R w/ the some of the Turk recommendations but not all. I made the clutch and gear changes. I have not changed the jets or removed a head gasket layer.... yet. Also, I have not drilled my exhaust. I have a sno stuff can on currently but still have my stock exhaust.
Will I still benefit from the changes I've made thus far or am I hurting performance vs. stock by only going part way?
I plan on running the sled as is for a couple rides then maybe diving into the gasket and jets.
Should I replace the can w/ the stock exhaust drilled? Only concern is power, the noise level of my can won't cause me any problems in my area of the Adirondacks.... even w/ the can I'm quieter than most of the sleds I encounter. BTW I bought the can under the guise it would improve performance (not for the noise) though it seems from what I read on here it may actually hurt performance.

Noise you will be fine. Find a 51/43 helix and the proper weights.....

I wouldn't rejet OR do the HG mod,,i found that on my SXR it was jetted perfect for my temps and altitude with the stock jetting, leaning it up more per turks tips would have made me very nervous, take a look at plug color and wash before you do anything,as far as the HG mod gas of today just sucks!! and to find good premium to run because of the added compression just isn't worth it IMO.
focus on clutching right now, she'll move good when dialed in with the 51/43 helix and the proper weights in primary like coles said

Mike, I've done the same thing, (clutch rollers and weights, helix, spring), but not the head gasket or the rejet.
