Weird issue on first ride.

what about wire rub through? float level if it happens on long bursts of throttle, pulls then flattens and or bogs, bring back to idle or low rpm then hit it and it does it again just a thought

Are you saying carb floats, kinda confused what you mean and how it pertains to rub through?

bog

I'm not absolutely positive but to me also it sounds like a carb problem. It sounds like the carbs can't keep up to your fuel demand. It maybe pump, dirty carbs or anything along those lines that could starve it for fuel. Hope it helps

cant really speak for him, but id say yes he means carb floats and i think he was saying rub thru as a seperate possibility not pertaining to the floats, it does sound like its probably time for a thorough going over, hope you find it

how did you find that to be the problem? In order to find that you would have to take the whole motor and everything out, which in return you may have solved the problem and found another all in one shot..
I found that out by eliminating everything else, and yes tore her down, replaced seals and put her back together.

i suppose you could do like you do when checking intake gaskets on a car and spray starting fluid on the seal with it running and if the engine revs it's leaking, don't know how good ether is for the seals though, or how youd do it on the stator side

Well I did full service, including new plugs and new gas. Sled wouldn't start as if it wasn't getting fuel, same as it did first start for the season but it is 10 degrees out. Which it has never done this in the 6 years I've owned it, always starting right up. After about 5 mins got it running and it ran great. Let it warm up and shut it down. Started right back up like it used to and ran great, but still had the same bog in high end rpm to about 3,000 rpm. This time I payed more attention to the sound it made when it happened, daman is right it was blah blah blah sound but only if hitting the throttle while it was doing it.. So it still ran good took it for some rips up the field in the whopping 2-4" of snow and ran great until same issue on high rpms. So pulled over and unplugged the tors and plugged it into itself. Took it out again and not only does it not seem to do it but hauls azz like it was on steriods. I was like where the **** did that come from, lol! Took my 06 skidoo out and dragged it against the yami with a buddy of mine and the yami rips past the skidoo on higher end. Its never ever even been able to come close to the doo. So I may have found the problem, but I need a good trail ride to know for sure which by the looks of the weather here may not be for awhile.

But heres my question, if it is the tors what do I do to fix it properly? This is now mostly my g/f's sled and I do not want her riding it without the tors hooked up for obvious reasons. Is just a sensor or what is it exactly? I checked the throttle cable and it is not even close to too tight so thats not it. Could this still be carb related?

good thing you didn't split the engine looking for something that wasn't there... ALWAYS tackle/eliminate the easy stuff first...

readjust throttle/ freeplay adjustment...

perhaps Daman can provide you procedure and specs?

Thanks for the help guys! Daman that sounds pretty simple hopefully I can find the switches, lol! These carbs I think should have a good going through so I'm thinking of brining it to the local yamaha guru and have him go through the carbs and check the switches. If that doesn't happen I'll definitely be going through them myself for sure. I'm thinking the switch on the throttle itself is sticking or broke because I notice it seems worse depending how I apply the throttle, meaning the position of my thumb seemed to manipulate the action. You know I was looking at it today and thought to myself the sled is a 2001, bought in 2000 and only has 5,000 miles and its almost 10 years old now where did all the time go, seems like just yesterday I picked her up from the dealer, lol! Man 10 years old.. never thought I still love it so much!
