515 Miles on New Power Valves...Pulled Through

Installed all new power valves last year. Only did around 830km (515 miles). Went to do maintenance on them today and I had one of them 3/4 of the way pulled through. &*%$#! Here is the strange thing, the pv wasn't hard to pull out at all, none of them were. Carbon deposit looked equal on all of them and not to bad.

Could it be that I miss-adjusted this one to tight? Causing the servo to pull hard on the cable, further then its supposed to and wear it down?

Not sure if I should fill the wear part with J-B Weld seeing as the other two still looks new (quick fix). Or send them to YA*AM*A*HEAD for the SS bolt fix...

With all the $$$ upgrades/maintenance I did lat year I though I was done. My father just sold his Venture for an RS Venture and we wanted to sled together during Christmas vacation. Oh well.
 
Been der dun dat..part of owning these sleds. Buy a single pipe tripe & be done with these gremlins alltho ur giving up mega hp, & gas mileage.
 
If they are adjusted too tight, the servo motor will be constantly pulling on the valve, which will cause issues.

Do the SS fix, or buy a new one. The PV's work well, but the design is shitty........it's what we have to live with.

Thats what I have done. I sent 4 undamaged valves out to do a "Preventive Srtike". Richard turned them around in less then 24 hrs...just waiting for the mail to get them here!
I also am very interested in the stainless valves, if he gets some fabricated.
 
What proceedure did you use to adjust them???? wow cant beleve that so little miles,new from yamaha or new used one's??
 
Brand spanking new from Yamaha. I use the best procedures. The ones on this site! With some of your pics ;)

The only thing I wasn't sure was when I tried to test it manually afterward. Before closing the two allen bolt back I was turning the servo manually to the full open mark I did. But then your basically puling against the spring. So there is play there. Hard to tell if you have it right.

Thats my wright up to :mrgreen: , anyway i dont understaind why you thought you needed to do that(not bashing)if done per my wright up it'll be spot on per yamahas instructions with the proper slack in the cable 2-3mm.

something went wrong for sure to tight had to be...put a dab of grease in the slot when you put it back together.

Well my good luck continues. @%&$!

I let my pv's soak for 48h in a all purpose cleaner I have at home. It's called Kleenol and is biodegradable. It has been good stuff for around the house and the boat... But look what it did to my pv's. Didn't do much for the carbon deposit but where there was no carbon to start with it started to eat away the aluminum! :o|

i do but looks like they were removed with a pair of vice grips ...shaft scared a bit on them .....and a little wear on coating ..wont hurt performance but dont look pretty and new ....i am in the middle of sending shots of my cores .........SIMPLE GREEN ...TO CLEAN .....
 
Thanks to YA*AM*A*HEAD I have fix pv's with SS bolt which I installed yesterday. I will be able to ride during the Christmas vacation woot woot!

To prevent anyone to make the same mistake as I did, I'm posting a picture of the all purpose cleaner that isn't to aluminum friendly. I know allot of you guys posted that you let your pv's soak in a cleaner to loosen the carbon. Well its a great idea until the APC likes to eat aluminum for breakfast. lol

I bought a big jug as this product does wonders around the house, boat, cars. It is non toxic, biodegradable and doesn't have a strong smell.

Notice is says safe on metals... The only thing close to a warning is the do not let dry on surface bit.

I agree, it has something corrosive in it. If you can use brake cleaner without doing damage than somethin is seriously corrosive in that product.
