Just my luck!!!

Check your clutch!

I just took mine out for its first run today and I know I need to service my clutches, but bowed out to save some money. I was about 1 mile from the house and boom, seized right up. I called a buddy, and when he showed to tow me home, I lifted the hood to take the belt off and noticed the primary and secondary were still engaged fully. Wound up one the weights was fully extended and locked in the open position causing the motor to stall out and the recoil could not even pull it over due to the tension on it. I just gave the weight a quick whack and she fired right up.

UPDATE: Just had time to look it over. I pulled the plugs back out and turned the primary by hand. I had th eforce it a little but the pistons were all moving easily. So I go to pull start it and wouldnt you know, it pulls and started 2nd pull and sounds great! So, what could have been the prob, clutch or pistons? Should I check compression again cause if it were a stuck piston it should be low on compression right?

Drain coolant and pull heads have a look, you have issues im sure...this whole motor should be pulled tore down and inspected, crank bearings etc..somethings going on.

drop a bit of oil in each cylinder thru the plug hole and try rolling it over back and forth , using the primary clutch , not re-coil " im tinking the rings are seized to the cylinder walls "

or just pull the head and cylinders to minimize damage

I still think you should pull the jugs , re-ring check cylinder walls and go from there

daman is right, mine did the same thing about three years a go. took it out for another ride and 30 miles later it stopped. this time for good blew the crank (do to rust on the bearings from inproper fogging that the last owner did or did not do) cost me big$$$. had to buy crank, cases, one cylinder, and pistons. so if you don't know how it's been summerized it would be way cheeper to check it now. better safe than sorry.

NOt good enough no....pull the motor and tear it down!! it's got tons of miles, freshen it up,seals wp seals, rings, etc and it'll run another 9 thou

Got ti tore almost all the way down. Just waitin on the primary puller. Pistons actually look good. Theres some light scratches on the cylinder walls though. Not deep enough to feel with my finder but still there. Is this ok? If not what can be done?

there is hone a made for nickle plating. I think it's a dimond tip hone but not 100% shure. thats what reichard's performance told me. they said a regular hone may chip the coating.

nic plating is very hard/tuff stuff, hitting it with a standard 240-280 grit stone will do not much,if anything you are only de glazing the boar that's all thats needed if at all..
