What LED tailight conversion for my 97 yamaha?

I have a venture that has poor heating passenger grips. I have been told that the stock incandescent uses a lot more watts, so going to a LED conversion will not only be brighter, but allow more power to go to the passenger handwarmers. the handwarmer elements are new last year, and all troubleshooting has been done. Nothing electrically is wrong, but I have been told the handwarmers don't work well by my Fiance several times last winter.

I have yet to ride on back, but I believe her, as whenever I check them for heat after a ride, they are never hot, even on the high setting.

The sled uses an 1157 bulb, and I was thinking of this one from Dennis Kirk.

I don't like the cheesy rotating one for the brake light. This one seems like it would do the trick.

Has anyone used this exact bulb on their sled?
 
Also, I see some companies say to get red LED's for uses that don't have a clear window like ona trailer to light up the license plate.

If I go with a clear one, I would think it won't matter since the lens is red, right?
 
I have a Warrior with the 3157 lights(push in type) I got a pair in it with the NON rotating led. I have been told you can't miss the brake light on my sled even if the sun is behind me. I'm a big fan of led (have to see my truck) but I don't think changing out the taillight would cure your problem. Yes led would reduce to draw on the charging system but wouldn't hurt to try.
 
I checked with others here last year having the same issue on their 2 ups. Cold hands don't make for a happy passenger. And you know how that goes. it is worth a shot,a nd will reduce the headlight dimming under braking as well. That is another issue on these proaction sleds.

I was thinking of getting a set of the yamaha handlebar "gauntlets" that deaalers sell. it basically shields the wind off the hands to keep them warmer, and the heat the warmers make from escaping.

The charging system on the sled was checked out and nothing was out of normal.

From my understanding you MUST use a RED LED behind a red lense, because if you use what appears to be a white LED, it is actually a blue LED with some sort of filter to make it appear white, you will never see it with the red lense over it. I tried and they are correct, was told something about the frequency of the red lense cancels out the blue light, RED shines through like no tomorrow.

In am ordering the RED LED bulb, and I will have to check for crud built up ion the stator.

Now to get to the stator, you would need to pull the pipe off, and then remove the recoil cover. Right? After that, it is probably only a couple small maybe 10mm bolts and the stator should come off. I wonder if taking the cover off, then blowing the area off with an air compressor nozzle will help?

I did check with my Fiance, and she said the new grips were nice and warm the first trip out, then after that weekend, they did not heat up. Electrically everything tested out after the new grips, switch and resistor kit were put in.
 
fwiw, Dennis Kirk has free shipping through today for any order over 25 dollars.

So I got my VES gaskets for my XCSP for free basically. My order would have been 25 dollars for the bulb with shipping. I did get the red bulb, not the amber that I linked originally.

The one that HPE sells is the bluhm bulb that DK sells.

just went and looked my order was just under $25, wish i would of noticed i would of threw something else on the order. oh well

Long story. In short my ex fiance got weird, moved back to WI:)

I never did get to ride the trails in Maine, but I did come back in 03 for the rally at Laconia. Rode the sport bikes all over the fun twisty roads from Newport VT, down to Laconia, all the way to Bar Harbor. I knew those fun backroads like the back of my hand.
 
Apparently they have the same problem with the passenger hand warmer on the 4 strokes side. Gauntlet for the RS Venture is one of the recommended fix that works good. One of the member will even sell a plug in kit to get more heat just like on the front heat grips problem the guys are having.

My father changed his 06 600 Venture for a 06 RS Venture. When I told him this he wasn't impressed that Yamaha never fixed the problem for the newer styled sleds.

Been running a red led in the rear since I bought mine. Only down side is it doesn't melt the snow dust that forms on the lens like a regular bulb.

Very interesting, and unsettling at the same time.

I have not tried out the LED bulb or using an airgun to get cru out of the magneto, but this news tells me that neither of these "fixes" are the best solution. Now I need to see if anyone can track a pair of handguards down, or at least get me the part number so i can scour the internet.
 
wow. I finally got to putting this led bulb in. HUGE difference, although I suspect my stator needs to be cleaned as my dash and headlights are not as bight as they should be. I will clean the stator this off season.

the difference at idle for the passenger warmers was 80 degrees with the incandescent, and 95 degrees for the LED, both at idle.
The headlight did not dim at all when I applied brakes, and the bulb appears a bit brighter than the stock tailight and brake light.
