02 viper er secondary play
first time user; I have about 2.5" of rotation on my secondary, is that because of reverse gear? or is somthing wrong? also!!! I seem to be in a constant fog the way she burns oil. should I increase the adjustment space in the cable?

2.5 inches seems like a bit too much , but yes there should be some

you want to adjust to get the right mixture so you need to figure how much oil you use to how much gas, top off both, ride top off both again recording how much of each it took, figure out the ratio and go from there, dont adjust based on how much it smokes
Keep in mind that the more throttle u use the more oil u need....
Check to make sure your arm on your oil pump is returning back to seated postition when at idle. My '02 was a bad smoker too. Got down to the oil pump and found that the arm was hanging up and not returning. My sled has 4800 miles on it and the spring that coils around the housing and attaches to the arm was worn into the housing and catching the spring so it would not return. After some filing to lessen the groove it was all better and not catching anymore.

I wouldn't "seat of the pants" adjust the oiler cable, you should set it at around 21mm-22mm gap. Slide the rubber boot back and then pull the cable apart, measure the distance, and then adjust if needed. I've also seen the cable routed too tight around the airbox and hold it open at this joint, something easy to check.
As far as the slack in your secondary, I'm not sure what the chain case tension is for one with reverse. Look it up in a manual or ask on here (someone will know), and then adjust the tension to the proper amount. That may even be fine for one with reverse, make sure you find out what the proper tension is before adjusting.
