2000 srx piston question

kinda leaving me hanging here staggs...
can you give me a percentage of certainty in your personal opinion?

is it possible the overheating caused it to fail?

to make sure I understand what you were saying, are you saying the carb boot is coming apart and flapping open (thats how i took it) if so you are sucking alot of air on that cyl (therefore running way lean) that'll kill a piston in a hurry, certainly is possible for overheating to have done it too if I took that post wrong
 
good point I'll have to check those boots again.
The reeds themself are not sitting flat, theres a gap ( opening ) in the front ( opposite side from the screws ) maybe .010-.015" between them and the holder, is this just normal wear and tear and can it be fixed by just changing the reeds or do I have to change the whole assembly?
