OK I cleaned the carbs they are spot less. When i start the sled it idles good but at 6000 ish rpms it starts backfiring through the carbs. All three carbs back fire. It get worse as I rev higher. Any one have a clue? Ive changed gas pwer valves are set. Compression is 140 cross the board. TORs is disconnected temporarily... I'm lost.... I checked the wiring harness with no problems there......Don't know what to check now.

Clean and check your stator, sometimes there can be alot of crap built up in the flywheel like belt dust and just plain old grime ,that can cause it not to send the right voltage. Check what output is coming from your stator also!Clean your stator with a bit of electro cleaner Give that a try might be what your looking for... Have a good Christmas

I have No idea? but I had the same problem with my 98 ... turned out to be the stator wasn't sending power to one coil! caused it to back fire! and wouldn't rev above 6000

all three cylinders back fire throught the carbs...... Past the reeds? Hows fire get past the rings and the reeds into the carb?

Mine would idle like a champ rev to 5500 great, but above 6000 would bog and backfire sometimes the magnet is covered in $hit mind my spelling, but its worth a try

is it only coming from one carb at a time? when it is on the intake stroke for that particular cylinder? It sounds like a misfire from your stator to me! But I have been wrong in the past

Remove your flywheel and see how much junk is in it, clean your magnet well Then try it again! Just be cautious you dont hit your stator with the puller bolts.Only a shot in the dark but worth a try

The motor was completely rebuilt from the crank bearings up last year and there is only 100 miles if that many on the motor. I started it this year and burnt two pistons. They where replaced and the sled is still backfiring? Ran good all summer.

is there any way to test the stator on the sled? The lights dont flicker and are real bright? No electric issues for what so ever?
