Fair enough for me..
I used a vacuum pump on mine last year to get the air out and then to suck the coolant into the system worked great.

yes i agree it's PITA but it's there to be used with some effort,i've bleed them through there many times, you can't get a proper first time bleeding from just the rear, the head, cyls will have trapped air, having it just raised in the rear will not get the air in the head out,i'll do it yammies way....
wile your at it one can pull the knob(if coolant's down enough) clean the corrosion up and pop it back in.
The manual does clearly state that it is a bleed hole. I have tried everything short of a bearing puller to get the damn on/ off valve to slide out a little and no go. I am really stumped on this one. Mines an 02 viper also. I have both the factory service manual and the PDF version and both are the same but i cant get it to work either.

I know...i realize it's a PITA,bad design if left it'll corrode in pretty good, had one we destroyed the head getting it to turn had to get a new knob after we finally got the old one out.super1c said:The manual does clearly state that it is a bleed hole. there's also a bolt underneath the rail that one could try and remove.

I guess I forgot to mention...I only lost the coolant from the bottle and the carb heaters. When I left the line off on the exhaust side of the carbs, I did have it closed off from removing it to clean the carbs. That's why I feel I'm ok now, it has drank about 3-4 inches of fluid since I re-filled the bottle, and all my heat exchangers under the foot rails and the one in the back get warm when running it. I'll still keep an eye on it when I go out for the first ride, I'll ride around close to the truck at first to make sure the temp light doesn't come on and have some coolant with me. I'll be bleeding it from the back if it does come on, but I'm pretty confident that all the air is out since it drank so much fluid out of the bottle. Bleeding it from the back will be a lot cleaner place to bleed it from when out in the mountains, a lot easier to catch and doesn't make a huge mess in the engine compartment...

Just keep an eye on it,feel coolers, should all be about the same temp...
mopar1rules said:THE SCREW TO TURN ON THE CARB HEATERS, IS NOT A BLEEDER SCREW!!!!!! that screw only holds in the knob. the knob is a pita to get out, as the orings hold it in there very well. leave knob alone. the only bleeder screw is on the rear of the sled, on the coolant rail.
As Daman says, it is a bleed screw. I too mistakenly thought it was the retainment screw.
Having said that, I've never had to use it to bleed the system. If you've got flow (i.e. warm HX), you should be okay or may have to top it off after riding.

Thanks, guys. Would have been out for a ride today, but found out at the last minute I had to work today. Boy, was I happy to hear that!
