My friend has a 98 srx 700 ran good for a wile. Took it out for a ride got less than a mile from truck quit. It would try to start but would not. Got it home messed with it for a bit changed cdi box started right up. Took it out again run great for 45 min or so stalled did the same thing it would try to start but would not. Let it sit cool down stated right back up.Once it gets warm it runs bad. Looked it to it agian checked stator pull fly wheel, black with greasy dirt. Cleaned it and cleaned pick up points on out side of fly wheel with sand paper. Now it seams to only run on 2 cyc. Re cleaned carbs checked reeds all good. Could it be the stator bad, tried swapping coils. Still runs like sh#$. Or bad wire some where I have a complete spare wiring harness. Put org cdi box on it and it just trys to stat plug other one it stats but runs bad. Any body have any sug?? :o| About ready to burn it. Great way to start the winter.

sounds to be ignition problems, they start to act up only when warm, then get worse. sounds like you're on the right track, I used to test coils with a heat gun blowing on them, you could watch the spark fade the hotter it got.

Had the same problem with an old Mach1, turned out it was not getting any fuel to the carbs from a plugged fuel filter. Pull the lines off the carbs and put em in a catch can. Then have a buddy pull the sled over and see how much gas u get. Might not be the problem, but worth mentioning i guess.

if the coil of the stator seem black it must be toast ....u can check for wiring under the motor ..sometime resistance change went heat is apply

need to start crossing things off the "could be" list.....

1-Stator test it test it right.....id pull it right outa the sled and look it over good, then test it warm.
