How much more performance could I expect from an Exciter over that of a Phazer? Are they noticeably quicker or faster? Thanks
Excellent comment...lets not forget about the pilot, I can take my sons Bravo on a tight trail and whip my old man on his RX-1...lolBrit44Aldo said:LOL, mixing apples and oranges.
The Phazer has a shorter track and different clutching then the Phazer II
The Phazer will eat the Phazer II in 600 feet.
The quickest Exciter is the original 87 with butterfly carbs that did not have the casting flaw in the carb. It had a lower chain case ratio then later years. The Exciter II has the advantage of having the YXR (overdrive) clutch.
The differance between fan and liquid is consistancy of engine temp and nothing more. The Exciter is a piston port engine where the Phazer is reed induction. A piston port makes more peak HP where a reed engine makes a broader power curve.
With an unlimited budget, a Phazer can be built to beat an Exciter in all aspects except for all out top speed. An Exciter can not be made to go over 120 Mph and have no bog below 5K rpm. The 540 VMax is a good example of a piston port engine with a large intake designed for top speed only.
If you want lake racing, there is no replacement for displacement. If you want tight, corner to corner racing, the lighter the better if the ski stance is the same. Good luck beating a properly built 84-89 Phazer (110+ mph and 18+ MPG) with a ski widening kit with any Yamaha.unless you are talking straight line acceleration.
But your still stuck with those stupid bogo sticks and 8 inches of rear suspension.
