Hey guys/gals!

I do alot of reading on clutches and all that stuff... and my buddy is interested in getting his set up...

from what I was reading... a good "costly" set up is... the stock weights with 4.5gram outer rivest with a www primare and green secondary @60wrap

now question is.... what would be good... from what ive seen on turks clutching tips... this is also a good set up....

51/43 Helix, 8-bu weights w/3.6g rivets in tip and 2.4g in 1st hole, WWW primary spring, Green secondary spring

He doesnt mind havign a fairly large budget on it.. he said around 400 bucks tops... he wants to have much more accell... but still have some top end on it... like 180km's is plenty top end...

what would you recomend? He is open to suggestions and everything...

why dont he just use the loaded 8dn-20's www set up that is been used tons on here? it's great all around set up that kicks ars?

That's what I was thinking of getting that one set up
but wanted to c if some one would say different how much does it cost on avg for that set up? Is it easy to do? I'm thinking on working on it just the 2 of us. Would b our first time working on clutching

Well the 01 and 02 srx had the 8dn20's from factory all one needs to do is get a 4.5 gram rivet for the tip a www or ysy prim spring with helix and red or green secondary and your golden.

but if you wabt to test and tune different set ups go ahead thats the way one learns this stuff.

I def wouldnt mind testing and tunning but dont think we are overly in a good position to do so as he lives a few hours away from me... and I dont want to play with mine right now as its been set up with heel clickers and is on the T... or close to it..

What did the 00 have as stock weights as his is a 00 im reading they have the same is the info im reading wrong?... I am planning on using the 8dn20's with the 4.5 rivets with www primary and green at 60 (though I just read that 70-80 wrap is good for corner to corner.. so ill have to talk to him about that part... and for helixes a 54/44 is good? hes looking for good accell and take off should we be looking at a dif helix?

THanks!

Right on thanks for the help man! now just need to find a place to get the parts and figure out what goes where and now lol... never worked on a clutch so should be interestin

shopping list is a 54/44 helix www spring green secondary and the 4.5g rivets.. how much should that run me give or take?

and a good place to buy the stuff? i was thinking 2coolperformance... but yea never bought from there yet

I have a set of new 8dn20's with 4.5 in both holes, a new www primary spring and a green secondary spring I can sell you I guess I shouldn't say they are brand new as they have 2 1000' speed runs on them. whether you buy my parts or not i would not set the secondary at a 60 wrap unless you are doing speed runs only if he is doing trail riding I would do 70 or 80 wrap for sure. Instant message me if you are interested in my parts

pmed...

Alrite... so I did some searching... and from what im reading.. do I need any speacial tools to be changing the clutch set up? do i need to take off the clutch to instal those parts?

it's easier just to take off the clutch and work on it on a work bench you'll need a clutch puller and basic tools to get the primary off and long threaded bolt to take pressure off the primary spring

hmm... alrite.. ill have to find some 1 with a clutch puller... I got basic tools to work no worries on that... and for a long threaded bolt im sure we have some laying around..

Would you know anywhere I could find pics of some 1 dissasembling the primary and working on it?

The primary is very simple there is six bolts under spring pressure and then the cover comes off along with primary spring( and engagement shims if there is any). After that the clutch consists of a roller with a washer on either side and a weight with a washer on either side they are held in with allen set screws holding a bushing that goes thru the weight and roller. Very simple. When you take it apart do one weight at a time and you will have the others to compare to. Good luck!

ah ok sounds simple enought! well not too bad...lol... never worked on clutching.. so im not even sure where the 8dn-20 weights with the 4.5gram rivets go... installing the helix and springs seem easy ish enough to do... but i guess it will make alot more sense to me when i see it infront of me...

Thanks for the help guys!

yep....you can't miss the weights and the rivets are in them!! Once you get it in front of you..you will under stand. Post back once you get it off and start in!

sounds good will do!...

dont think it will anytime too soon... as this is for my buddies srx.. so need to get the parts in from the states... then find a weekend that he can come down...so we can get to work on her... hopefully sooner then later! i want to see what the over all difference will be from a complete stock set up to some clutching...

Thanks for the help! and prob will be back on with some questions when we do end up working on it

Just take your time and remember where things go and before you put it back together clean it up in hot soapy water with a toothbrush or if the wifey's not home throw it in the dishwasher, check bushings and make sure you don't F up the bushing in the primary cover when installing the cover it tends to bend and bind so just keep checking and U should be fine

I have a few clutches laying around at home I could check for as a example (my comet and the oem one i got on my srx).. so its not too bad if i get to far ahead... though I will take my time on it... lol... I mentioned that (dishwasher) idea that i read up on here a while back... i think hes been looking for one for the garage ever since haha... not 100% sure on what you mean by the bushing.. but I will keep an eye out... its tuff understanding what you guys are refering to since ive never had a clutch apart yet... but there's a first time for everything... and hey... its not my clutch... haha kidding... ill def be carefull and pay attention to what im doing... want to get it right so we can possibly get some real sledding time in for that weekend..

when you have your clutch off you insert the long threaded bolt through the bolt hole put nut on and keep it tight then you take a 10mm wrench and loosen the 6 bolt that hold the cover, then you loosen the big bolt nut and watch how it comes off that where your bushing is inside the cover and if you F it up it cost $40 canadian to replace (been there done that) hope this helps

and some one should have pictures on this as a sticky for future references.
