Track wear on a Viper

I am looking at an 02 Viper with a claimed less than 1000km(800m) odometer, sled is a long drive away so trying to piece the deal together without eyeballing. He says the only problem with the sled is the track is really worn...now I ride a 02 MM and know Yokohamas can be soft and prove to tear...can you guys give me any feedback on what this track should look like and if it is in fact prone to premature wear???He claims the rest of the sled is clean, no hits cracks or marks...I have asked for pics and if when I get them I will post, thanks in advance for your advice....
 
If there is only 1000 km, the track shouldn't be really worn. Thats my thought because mine has a lot more kms and my original track is starting to get worn.
 
Got 8000 mi on my 02 and track is still in good condition,, 96 studs in it that are now worn down but track ok..... all depends on how U ride it......
 
The only other possibility is he is reading a trip mileage not cumulative, he said he bought it off a friend and never rode it much..sounds like a red flag...I am not familiar with those digital dashes, can one of you tell me what gives away a trip reading vs total or are they both displayed at once....thanks
 
Dont know, is it even possible to cut/pinch off a speedo cable with those digital gauges anymore? Or is that a thing of the past??

My buddy bought a sled that had "super low KMs" and I had seen pics and said it was way too beat up for a low mileage sled. He bought it anyway, got it home, and the speedo cable had been cut. Definatley did not have the 1500KM it claimed to have, I would say more like 8000KM....
 
Just my 2 cents. If he says the track is worn it probally needs replaced? If you are driving a long trip and I have done this twice. The sled better be really low miles and in prestine condition. Get a ton on pics before you take the trip and ask lots of questions. Best luck.
 
If you do go bring a compression tester & plug wrench for sure, also check the chaincase oil for sludge on the magnet, it could have been changed but is often over looked. Lot of shavings & black oil = not low miles.
 
My Father's '02 700ER has the stocker on it still at over 8000 miles. It is showing signs of wear. Nothing bad but certainly worn in places. You can easily replace the track don't let that be a reason not to buy. Let the other parts of the sled determine if/how much you get it for. A decent track is $400 (found a new Ripsaw 15x121x1.25 on eBay for $384.95 shipped) if you install it yourself. Just keep that in mind.
 
Ottawaair, never thought of the magnet trick, good idea. I usually gauge wear by grips, track, clutch sheaves and even the amount of paint off the radius rods tells alot. The 02 MM I bought last year was 726 miles and it checked out, very happy with it. Does the trip toggle from cumulative to trip kms on the display though....or are they both displayed at once...if this guy is really sled green he might not even know how to work it properly....
 
not really a trick, the chain case dipstick should have a magnet on the end of it already. No idea about the digital odometer, I have a srx, doesn't have digital.
