well, I got my new tps this week and need to install it. I know there is a way to set these up but need to know the proper technique. I figure the easiest way to do it is to put it on when I pull the carbs to clean them. I kow I have to get the ol multi meter out and ohm it but I'm not sure which wires to check.

thanks. I was checking out the post you were talking about. That got pretty involved LOL. I got more issues than just the tps. I have to pull my harness and check it for rub throughs. I disconnected my tors last year and it still kicks in when letting off and getting back into the throttle. I also went through a couple belts last season. I was talking to someone on HCS and they said I might have a motor mount out or a cracked frame where the mount is bolted. It is getting to be the season and I still havent wrenched on it !

the test/set up proceedure was in that post so you should be all set with that,if you said you disconnected tors(explain) and it still is doing it i cant see it being that.

tors

if I'm out riding when I let off say for a slow turn or coming up on someone and have to let off when I get back on it the tors kicks in and wont stop till I pull over and completely stop and let the sled idle down. I tried to disconnect it at the carbs and connect the 2 plugs but it still happens. I checked the throttle and the cables have slack in them as they should and the pin in the throttle housing at the bars slides freely as it should. I bought a new throttle switch last year but didnt get it on the sled yet to see if mine is bad. It is annoying and dangerous when you have someone following you so I usually take the last position when were riding so I dont get hit from behind.

Does it still sound liek a cars rev limiter?? when it's acting up can you get 3 grand outa it? or is it limited to under that.try the new switch

I MIGHT get 3 grand out of it when it happens. Like I said, it has me confused as well. I would like it to work correctly so it dont go wide open across a field after I fall off and run someone down ! I checked everything I can think of. At thee end of last year it started missing int he mid to top end and I got a code for the tps. Thats why I am changing it. as far as the tors I hope the new switch will solve that issue without pulling the harness and checking it.

put on your tps and set it,put on your new throttle block and check all switches with volt meter also make sure there working.

will do. I really have no complaints about the sled. It would probably be hassle free if it was still in stock unmolested form....but whats the fun in that !! If your going to mod your gonna have troubles ! I really do need to pull the harness and check it though.

My sled recently started to do this. I also thought it was the TPS, but I dosconnected it and it is not that problem.

I will be following this thread and also doing my own troubleshooting.

So yours was missing in the mid range and you were also getting the tps code flashing on your gauges? Did you have any other issues like the hand warmers not working or anything like that? I know some people had rub throughs on their harnesses and they had these multi symptoms. Mine seems to act up unless I have the throttle matted to the bars ! It don't do it at WOT.

I'm not so sure that the tps isn't somehow connected into the servo motor for the powervalves at some point in the powercurve. I know on a 2 stroke dirtbike the powervalves run off of a centrifugal actuator with a linkage. But these are a variable electronic setup that is run by a computer (per say).

no, I couldn't get above 3k aftering letting off the throttle. If I let it idle down by itself, it woudl come down, and I could pin it again, otherwise it was like the TPS was kicking in. I disconnected the TPS and still have the same issue.

This dosen't sound like the tps. This sounds like the TORS or throttle override switch. this is locate on the carb rack over by the throttle cable. There are 2 single wires coming into the carb rack. disconnect them from the carbs and connect the 2 plugs together on the wiring harness side. Also check to make sure you have some slack in your throttle cable at t he thumb throttle. If your throttle cable is too tight it will think the throttle is stuck and shut the sled down to under 3 grand and just miss. Check these thiongs and report back. Mine all checks out but still shuts down so it might be a rub through in the wiring harness for me.

bought a new (used) harness today. When I get it I am going to triple wrap it and reroute it before installing it. Then I know I have a good harness. looking for a 4.5v power supply to check mt tps before I change it. Something is going on because I noticed today when I had it idling the tach was dropping and jumping all over the place. If I bring it up to 3k rpm and hold it there the needle stays at 3 and don't jump around. The more I think about it the more I think it is the harness. Most of this started after I raised the bars now that I think about it. It started with the intermittent hand warmers but I blamed that on the aluminum bars I installed when I did the risers. I can't wait to get this straightened out so I can shred some snow (if we get any) !!! I LOVE THIS SLED !!!!!

maxwell, do you have any other symptoms or just the tors issue? do your handwarmers work ok? If not check the harness where it goes through the dash at the handlebars. This is a common failure area on these sleds.
