My 04 viper started sucking oil on my first ride this year. It was getting 10mpg gal wich isnt out of line for the conditions but I was using a quart of oil every 60 to 70 miles or so. I was also getting a flashing engine light on the guage(Not the DCS). The plugs were oil soaked but not fouled and a new set didn't help. The oil cable is adjusted to 20mm and I couldn't find any leaks. The carbs and powervalves were cleaned over the summer but no adjustments were made. Any one haveany idea what the problem could be? Thanks

Oil pump arm stuck open, or not returning back to seated position. Pull out air box and carbs and look down where cable attaches to the oil pump arm. Make sure it is moving and returning back. The spring wraps around the arm shaft and can wear to the point it will not return the arm or the spring could be broke.
The give away on my '02 Viper was when I would let go of the thumb throttle lever the lower cable that you can see when held in full throttle postition would not return as fast as the throttle cable. Take a look and verify that both these cables are returning at the same speed.

^Ok, i'll look at that.

(daman) It ran fine last year. I always got around 200 miles per quart. The only thing different from last year is a new jackshaft and driveline bearings.

The cable seems to be moving free and at the same speed as the throttle cable. I also made sure it wasnt hung up on the adjuster and lubed the cable for good measure. Its still using a ton of oil though. I made quite a smoke cloud up and down the field. Could there be a failure in the pump itself? It seems like if it malfunctioned it would revert to a wide open setting as to not starve the engine.

Yes most times they fail full flow, but unusall for a viper, try leaning it out more 22-23mm post back

sleds do smoke allot at first but once fully warmed up and ridden it stops.
