Help with New (used) '03 Viper

Hello, I'm new to the site and also new to the Yamaha Sleds. I have a couple questions for anyone that might be able to help. First, whenever I start the sled (usually two pulls) the warning light flashes twice but seems fine. Second whenever I let off the throttle after high RPM's it has to drop down to idle RPM's for a second before I can gt any throttle response again. Are these two things related? and am I causing any damage to the sled by riding it this way? Any thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance and happy riding.
 
That is normal for the warning light to flash twice. I have an ER (electric start) and mine does it after i start as well. I also have an RX1 that does the same thing...just be worried if it doesn't turn off. I am sure someone will chime in and tell you what the 2 flashes mean (i can't find the diagnostic sheet). As far as the throttle response, this should not be related. I would make certaing your Power Valves are clean, as well as your Carbs. Also, what happens when you try to give gas. Does it just bog down, or no response until RPM's dip that low. Also, what RPM's are you running at idle?

I'll try to describe in details exactly what happens. Everything seems to be running fine when I first take off. good idle rpm, about 1700-1800, It has great pick up and gets up to speed without bogging or anything. After running at RPM's over 3000 for any length of time and I take my thumb off the throttle, I won't get any throttle response until the sled stops and sits at idle rpm for at least a couple seconds. If I depress the throttle before it sits at idle rpm it just doesn't respond. I hope i'm explaining this good enough because its a baffling problem that doesn't seem to be stopping. I'm going to try taking apart the power valves tomorrow and checking them but am a little nervous about it everything i've read seems that they might be a little tricky. let me know if this helps. thank you again.
 
Yeah it's deffinetly cutting out and limits my rpm's to to under 3000 and the sled won't move until it reaches idle for at least a couple seconds then it's fine again.
 
It is yourTORS throttle over ride system. Disconnect it by plugging the two small wires coming out of the wiring harness going to a switch on the carb together, one is male one is female. Common issue.
 
I think thats the problem. I think I'm going to just replace both switches the one on the carb and on the throttle. wheres the best place to get those switches from?
 
Did you try adjusting the throttle cable slack a bit? the TORS likes to have a pretty good amount of slack in the cable... quick/cheap check before you go spending money on switches you might not need...
 
Yeah I have good slack in the cable. I also tried splicing the wires together as suggested prior but there are 3 wires in the harness I tried all the combinations of hooking up two wires together and each one I keep getting the same engine warning light as if the harness is just unplugged. Do i need to splice all three wires together to override the TORS?
 
I think you are looking at the wrong wires. The TORS switch is above the middle carb on the engine side. That switch should only have 2 wires & the ends are the single wire round type. The connections are at the wire harness.
 
yep found the correct wires now and i think i figured out the problem. both connectors were corroded and im not getting a good connection.
