I've been going over my 98 SRX 700 I purchased last year. I am currently putting a new cylinder and piston in on the mag side (burndown!), and I want to make sure the sled is jetted properly. I have cleaned the carbs and checked over everything.
Sled has a Bender Primary, Hauck Secondary, Bender Cold Air, Pipes and Can. V-Force Delta 3 reeds....and that's about as much as I know. I don't know a whole lot, but I did remove the jets and clean them thoroughly. Checked the float etc. (Used the carb cleaning tutorial in Tech FAQ).

the size # is stamped on the bottom end of the jet. should be a # in the 150 range, sometimes hard to read.

Ok, thanks. So is there any real way to know what jets I need without knowing EXACTLY what is done to my sled?

well you know whats done to your sled you posted it in your opening post, with that cold air kit you may need more jetting, find out why you burnt down on that cyl, find out what jetting you have and post it up, you got after market pipes? or stock SRX?

Watch your plugs & piston wash is the only of knowing if anything is jetted correctly, stock or otherwise. Whoever did all those mods should have jetted it right, but, have you found the reason for the burndown. Don't just put it back together or it may happen again. Contact bender racing, they may give you a baseline to start from.

I know whats done as far as I can tell by looking at it. I'm not sure if the pipes are stock or not....the can isn't.
I'm pretty sure it burnt up from the carbs being dirty....didn't clean them before my first ride and the pilot jet for the bad cylinder was pretty clogged....and I didn't really let it warm up before I got on it. It may sound stupid, but once it's back together I'm going to try the ether trick around the crank seals to check them.....don't really want to pull the motor to change them if I don't have to.....I said in other posts that I was told the engine was rebuilt aprox. 500 miles ago.

well you need to figure out what you have to know witch way to go,with the jetting yo have now how did your plugs look?
when you've had allot of hands in the cookie jar you never know whats inside and that can be bad.

Plugs were light tan and dry....except for the one with the fried piston....it was wet and black.
As for the cookie jar....I'm begining to realize that. Especially being in an area where I don't get to ride all winter long and there is not many people around who know stuff about snowmobiling. Closest shop is an hour or more away and they are always slammed. I need to move to snowmobile country....just don't think my wife would have it.

Maybe you will have to rebuild it & just keep running it & checking the plugs over & over until you're comfortable with it. Keep in mind if you do your testing in fair temps. it may be lean when it gets colder out. When i bought my sled the previous owner had it jetted 3 sizes under stock, but he only rode in the daytime & not very aggressive at all. I smoked it in the middle of the night at about 5 degrees not knowing it was so lean.

Pics of Air Box
I also noticed today that my air box has 6 holes drilled in the bottom of it, and it appears that the top of it was modified as well....possibly for the cold air kit?? Should it have the 2 extra big cut-outs in the top?
Carb/Jet pics tonight.

the holes in bottom are drains, the slots are per the cold air instructions, also is the box gutted?

Not sure if it's gutted. It has a snap on lid with a sponge type filter in it.....plus the cold air kit filter in the dash.
What else should be in it?

a horizontal shelf with 3 round holes, and 3 vertical dividers under that, but i think the cold air might call for everything to be taken out. mine came with a cold air kit on it and my box is empty and the slots cut in top just like yours. i bought a stock box cause i was gonna go back, but now that i've done some engine mods not sure any more

The jetting in the carbs now is...Mag Cyl is 152.5....center is 150.....pto is 150. As long as I got the cylinders correct....clutch side is pto?
If so, the mag cylinder is jetted different and that's the one that burnt up.
So what are your thoughts on the jetting?
