My Viper running lean??

I have a 02 Viper and my wife has a 99 Vmax and we both started with full gas and oil. We both went trail riding and did about 60 miles on both machines. I refilled both machines with gas and this is what I got
Viper: 4.9 gal of gas to 3 oz of oil
Vmax: 4.6 gal of gas to 8.5 oz of oil

Is my Viper running lean? The oil pump cable is set to factory specs. :dunno:
 
Sounds lean!

These triples don't seem to consume much oil. My viper uses have the oil of my polaris and older doo. I never measured it in oz's always ml's. I aim to set it up so you use a litre of oil evey tank of fuel. Just turn in the oil pump adjustor a wee bit and ride it again.
 
That things running lean!!!! 209:1,up that pump before you throw a bearing,vipers were set lean from factory for emision reasons.

your wifes VM is 69:1 plenty lean too,try to hit 50:1 on these sleds,shoot for 1 qt per tank(12)gals of fuel.

you'll have to play with them doing calculations like you have been, back your viper cable off to 20mm,where is it at now? is the wifes a triple VM?
 
Or maybe my Vmax is running way too rich? The vmax is using about 2 thirds more oil than the viper.

no reread my post,,there both on the lean side...vm is little better tho
 
The viper was at about 18mm. I just went out to the garage and checked it. So wouldnt this be richer than 20mm??

yes thats pulled apart as far as I know? Basically I pulled the rubber off top of the cable housing then pulled the top cable housing all the way till you could see as much of the cable as possible then measured the exposed cable from the top cable housing to the metal hex adjuster. This sound right
 
Measured A right??? yes 18 is richer,check oil supply line for any kincks etc...

that is strange....check for any kincked lines or restricted oil supply,try a richer setting then before you think about new pump.
 
I need to adjust mine too!

How many turns would you turn it? I'm at 20.mm might go down to 18 and see what I use for fuel.
 
Well I tore things apart today and have the carbs off and am at the point where Im looking at the oil pump and all the lines. I don't see any kincks in the lines anywhere. How should I go about looking for restricted lines? I'm worried about pulling lines and pulling the pump off as I have never touched oil injection before. Any advise? Whats the line attached to the middle carb boot with the screw in the end of it? Looks like some type of adjuster or bleeder??
 
it's a bleeder,,just give things a good general looking at if somehitng dont look right note it. theres one way check vales but hard to see if anything would be trapped in there.

supply line to the pump look good no restritions etc,etc.
 
Ok where should I go from here then?? The most I can adjust the cable to would be about 15mm. Would this give me enough to richen it up? Personally I would not think it would be enough to get me to the 50:1 that I want. I did notice the cable would hit the stop when you pinned the throttle. But whe released it would only go half way and not hit the stop on the closed throttle. Maybe the wrong cable?? This sled is new to me and this was my first time riding it.
 
I think you may have a blockage in your oil tank . I would take off the tank and empty it . A ring from an oil container may be blocking the passage it happened to me so It can happen to you! J to the R.O.C ... lol
