How hard to pull when checking oil pump gap

How hard should you pull the cables apart? When I pull them firmly/snug I have 18mm/19mm. If I pull it really hard I have 21mm/22mm.

your not going to hurt anything,grab it and pull till it stops..

spec for your viper is 20.5 +/- 1mm so yea your in the park try 20 or 21,play with it try to hit 1 qt per tank of fuel 48-50:1.
