JUST FOUND ONE FOR MY 2000, AND HAVE ONE FOR A 2001. THEY DO WORK. JUST MAKE SHURE YOU FIND ONE FOR A 98/99 SO YOUR PLUG MATCHES. 2000 WON,T WORK ON 98. 3:16 (yammie tony)
I have one from my 98 that I sold, I swapped out the cdi boxes thinking I may need it.
Haucks set up my 98 when new. I think I paid $400 for the race CDI box, make me an offer.
I am located in Hanover MN, close to Minneapolis area.

Wow. Jump on that CDI. There weren't many '98 race cdi's built, and they are VERY hard to find.

What exactly does a race cdi (for a 98 srx700) do? How does it change the timing? I have heard of people putting a cdi from a 98 srx600 into a 98 srx700 for a little hotter (i assume advanced) midrange timing. Does a race cdi do the same thing? Is a race cdi still good for trails and lakes, or is it just for short drags? Do you need a port job to take advantage of a race cdi? What type of performance gains are we talking about? What, if any, are the adverse effects on reliability and fuel economy?
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

THEY ARE FOR MORE TIMING, BOX IS REPROGRAMED THAT WAY WITH MORE ADVANCE AND NO LIMIT TO RPM. WHICH MEANS WAY BETTER ACCELERATION AND A RACE ONLY CDI. I WOULD NOT USE ONE FOR TRAIL OR LAKE RACING. GREAT FOR GRASS RACING OR 660 ICE DRAGS. ALSO VERY INPORTANT THE FUEL YOUR USEING, CARB SET-UP, AND MOTOR WORK. CAN NOT RUN ONE SO YOU CAN TELL YOUR BUDDIES YOU HAVE IT. VERY INPORTANT TO BE SET-UP FOR IT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Tony I have run the race boxes on 2000 ft radar runs. No problem, u just have to drop compression #s down a bit! If anyone is looking for stock 600 cdi's let me know, I have a couple in my electrical bin! I converted my 600 ignition to a 2001 system because I was having a hard time finding race boxes for the older system.

DAN, OLD SCHOOL HERE, NO COMPRESSION OR TIMING FOR LONG HAUL. TWO 700 SX MOTORS I HAVE HELPED GUYS WITH 125 psi AND STOCK TIMING , ONE IN THE NINES, OTHER, WILL BE CLOSE ON TAR IN 1/4. EVERYBODY HAS THEIR OWN THEORY'S. 3:16 (YAMMIE TONY)
