Carb cleaning question

I was cleaning a buddys' Viper carbs today, took out the main jets and took off the white plastic rings, and noticed that the brass tube that the main jet threads into (and has a slot on one side) would slide down into the carb some. Is this tube supposed to slide up and down, or is it supposed to be solid? I just don't remember it doing this on my viper.

I remember it doing it on my Viper, the main jet once screwed back in holds it up. Nothing to worry about.

Good-- thanks for the instant reply. I had to hold the tube in place with a small screwdriver while screwing the main back in and never had to do that on my 02. I really didn't want to pull the carbs back out either!
