Well, ive been fighting problem after problem with my viper for the past week, diagnosing why it is running poorly.
I have good piston wash on PTO and Center, however the top of the mag side piston is clean....
I pulled the reed cages tonight, and low and behold the reeds are chipped at the tips, and im missing one complete segment of petal, probably 3/4 long by 1/4 inch wide peice of reed.
Would this be a contributor why my piston wash is different?
I had a semi-leaky headgasket aswell, on that side, and jetting is the same all across, carbs are clean.

yes it will be letting more fuel in there for more of a wash on the piston

Thats what i was figuring... Sled will probably feel fast again once i get new reeds... I cant believe i had all this trouble and didnt think to check them.

What should i replace them with? Stock? Carbon Tech? Boyesen Super Stock? Boyeson Power Reeds? V force 3 (too expensive for my blood)?

Use the stock reeds and use the money you saved for gas.
Stock OEM reeds on a Yamaha are very high quality and tough to beat. You really wont gain much if anything to speak of on aftermarket

Well maybe ill go with the Boyeson Reeds since i think i can get them quicker than the stock ones... Jeez, i just want to go ride....
look up laneo or viperking on here and get a set of stock reeds and cags for half price of reeds. I put v force 2's in my viper when I had it, and didn't notice anything. Only difference was my wallet felt lighter. Save the money fo better mods. Paul
Between my VMax4s, SXs, + SRX I have used:
1] Boysen Power Reeds in Stock cages:
-did not notice any improvement but no negative as well
2]Boysen Rage Cages:
-in my SRX now, high quality item, a little longer cage purtrudes into case a bt so I am using them with spacers, so far they work well, sled runs a little richer, everywhere ,then it did with VForce IIs...had to rejet.
3] Carbon Tech carbon fibre reeds in stock cages
-when I first installed these in our SXs, they made an immediate noticeable improvement...I think best bang for the buck!
4] Vforce I:
-worked best on our BB800 SX improver...pulled a little more on top
5]Vforce II:
-as good as stock on my SRX...I think the best Vforce units
6]Vforce III:
-no improvement over stock, not as crisp on part throttle response...save your money
The biggest improvement I ever saw when changing Reeds was when I installed the Carbon Techs on our SXs...it made a noticeable difference.

i was going to suggest carbon tech petals on the stock cages. best bang for the buck from what i've noticed from experience. love them reeds. and good life too.
