chain noise at low speeds ??

Anyone know what causes the what sounds like a chain noise when my Viper is driven at very slow speeds for an extended period of time. It happens to two of our Yamahas and I'm assuming its not a problem but it sounds annoying and I would like to fix/adjust if possible. I realize it's more fun to drive this sled fast but I also have a 5 year old that likes to make the treck on the back trails to the store for lollypops !!
 
I would check all your bearings...Jackshaft,Driveshaft,and take apart the chaincase to inspect those too and check your tentioner...I just had to replace all my bearings and driveshaft and chaincase....Big expensive pain in the ***...But I do like to ride up to the store for a lollypop myself!!!LOL
 
Unless it very loud I think its normal on this vintage of sled.I noticed it right away when I first rode mine, but have became acustomed to it, good points above though ^^^^
 
ANY NOISE FROM YOUR CHAINCASE IS NOT GOOD. THEY SHOULD BE SILENT. THATS A SIGN OF A BIG PROBLEM COMING. BETTER TAKE IT APART. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
I have an ER and do have the same noise at low speeds. I have had the chaincase apart a few times, so i know that everything is kosher within. I would not worry about it.
 
Thanks for you note. Are you familiar with this issue? I would have thought chain needed tightening but my guess is you have experience with this.
 
Have you checked the condition of the drive axle bearing? It is the bearing on the axle that drives the track right under the secondary clutch. This bearing needs to be changed or serviced periodically. Have you changed your chaincase oil? I remove the chaincase cover every season to look for bearing parts, clean out the metallic sludge and give it a good look over. Changing the chaincase oil is not good enough.
