ok, I just took in a 02 Viper on trade and took it for it's maiden voyage. Rear skid sucks and steers like a tank. I'm assuming that taking some weight off the front will help the steering pressure, but the rear skid beats you to death. Anyone have some suggestions that may help me here? Thanks in advance

always a comic in the crowd. Ask for some help and get " put in a new skid"

and sorryn if you thought i was being a jokester but if you do a search on skidswap you'll see alot of guys here are doing it, it truly was intended as some help, an edge or a sc10III can be bought cheap and are a huge improvement in ride

I'll give you some background. came from a 06 apex rtx, set it up rode awesome. pilot ski's big boy spring, all the mods later had a pile of money in it. Got a chance to sell it and did just that, but took this viper in trade. Sick of spending thousands of dollars to make a sled right? It seemed to never end with the apex.

oh it has a mono, those first links wont help you then, those are for the proaction, try ebay or your local salvage yards for a skid if that's the route you decide to go, also you can probably get some help with the mono on the 4-stroke side since those are the sleds those skids came from.
heres a good thread on putting a sc10III in

Here's my advice..
Put a M-10 under it....My VIPER rides great with it and put on a set of SIMMONS ski's on the front...
I also took mine in trade and it seems to be alot of problems...Whoever owned it before wasn't a very good mechanic..Put the bearings in the chaincase backwards!!!!No wonder it went out after I rode it 78 miles...

Taking some time to setup the skid correctly for your riding style goes a long ways... depending on budget that might include re-valving the original shocks or buying new Ohlins... I was never a fan of the ProAction skids, I have a 136" SC10-3 in my Viper and an Edge in my SRX with Fast BLT front suspension, the difference in ride is amazing, I was following my buddy with a SXR last night with my SRX and him and the gal he was riding with were darn near bucked off the thing several times, I noticed most of the bumps but never came off the seat like them, plus the Edge transfers so easily, instant bite!
