friends viper went down AGAIN. mag. side AGAIN. First 2 times was determined that the rod had a slight twist in it from the factory, repaiers under warranty both times - rod problem i guess is common with vipers?? Put on about 1000 miles last year & 6 miles this weekend and blaaaaah, mag side again. My question is when looking at the base gasket there is a larger water jacket port for one of the cyl's. Does this larger port go on the mag side?? looking at parts breakdown on babitts online it looks to me like the larger hole is on the pto side, he had it on the mag side so it should have been flowing more on that side anyway, but that one burned & started to melt the center cyl. also.

anybody else ever paid attention to the gasket ports being different sizes. Just looked at an old SRX gasket & they too have different size openings for each cyl.

its part of the poor head design that everyone with a mod'ed Viper deals with... most run SRX base gaskets and aftermarket head/SRX heads... do a search on it...

sled is bone stock, the larger opening was on the mag side. i don't know if that would make a difference or not. The dealership was the last one to have it apart. new crank & seals 1000 miles ago. Odd they had yamabond all over the base gasket. I was thinking detonation- bad gas but was reallt wondering which way that gasket was supposed to go on.
