I noticed while riding 98 sx 600, the speedometer was slow to react. I would be going 60 and saying twenty for example.
Would the problem be in the speedometer gauge dash...or like a speedo bearing?
Any input is appreciated!
Thanks

Mine is doing the same thing I put a new cable on it and it has a new key from the drive shaft to the 90 degree adapter. So the other day I took the cable off down at the drive axle and hooked my cordless drill up to it and could only get 10 mph out of it. I am assuming that the speedo head is bad on mine. I put an ad out there on vintage sleds and had someone respond that had a brand new speedo head only that I will have to put in my cluster I got it for $36 shipped to me that was a get deal it sells for new from Yamaha for about $240 he had bought it and didn't need and been sitting on it for awhile and then sold the sled. I bet you are having the same issues. Mine speedo would only go up to 50-55 mph and would take 10 sec to go from 20 mph to zero. Put an ad out there I am sure you will find something.
So am I looking for a speedo head or the cluster?
People seem to sell the cluster seen some on ebay. Post a wanted as on here I am sure someone has one.
pull the cable off the back of the speedo and try spinning the cable by hand. Work it back and forth to see if you can get it to spin at all. It shouldnt. If you can, your speedo gear box may be bad or the speedo key may be broke. If the gear box is bad, it can break the speedo key also.
13 is the speedo gear box
14 is the speedo Key that goes into the end of the drive axle
