Lets pretend we have a stock viper, with the exception of whatever cluthing is needed to keep from overreving. And perfect conditions

here is a formula that works for me divide bottom gear into top mulitply by .01564 then mulitply by engine rpm mulitiply by 1.12 ten mutiply by 1.07 that is all the amout of overdrive a yama can use

A viper with 22/38 stock gear has a theoretical top speed of 107mph at 8600rpm with ending 1 to 1 shift ratio. That would be about 122 on the dream meter. A 21/38 gear has a theoretical top speed of 102mph at 8600rpm with ending 1 to 1 shift ratio. That would be about 116 on the dream meter. An overdrive shift can be achieved with the proper conditions and more likely with the lower gearing but you should aim for 1 to 1 top ratio. For what it is worth I use the 21/38 gearing. I have seen as high as 118 on the speedo which shows a little overdrive is possible. I had only seen 116 on the speedo previously with stock gears so I don't think I lost anything on top except for maybe in a 2 mile perfect conditions ice run that I might see once in a lifetime. I like the added quickness better. Some may have different opinions. This is just mine. I am ported no pipes.

Thanks guys. Im glad I asked, I guess I will be keeping my 21 tooth top gear now. I am still tuning my sled and trying to get things right, figure I ask about a stock sled numbers first... So mines got pipes and stuff now, so its only going to work that much better once I get the cluthing mastered.

In my Viper I have 24t 38b...
Had mine up to 116 on the dream meter,more like 108 for real...that 's only in a mile or so run..it still had more
But, we ride on ice 90% of the time...I blow my boy's off the Ice..
And it's still fast out of the hole they never get more than 1 or 2 lenghts and then
all they see is the back of my JACKET anda taillight!!!!!
