Speedo question

Hello-speedo is not working. New cable. Was worried about a bad bearing but it looks like new(don't know if that is good or bad) The speedo housing turns freely but the back where the metal pointy goes into the shaft looks cobbed up. I don't know what it is supposed to look like. It is currently like a braided cable that goes in the hole of the shaft but does not seem to fit tight. I think the cable is just spinning in the hole. I could probably cob something up but would rather do it right. I looked at the parts diagram but no detailed pics of the back of the housing. Any ideas?
 
Can you explain it a little better? By speedo housing do you mean the speedometer itself or the part that bolts to the tunnel?

Take the cable off the speedometer and run the sled on a stand. The core if the cable should be turning.
 
The housing itself. The cable attaches to it down opposite the drive gear below the secondary. I believe there is supposed to be a speedo adapter, I think on mine this piece is junk. I searched around and found on another site. It looks similar to a pop rivet with a square piece that looks exactly like a small piece of speedo cable. I think this piece that attached to the rt angle housing and shaft. Trying to find this piece I need. The one in place is destroyed. Can't find in the microfiche though?
 
OK how do I get pt#8K4-47577-00-00 out of the shaft. I have it soaking in pen. oil. Maybe use a small screw and pull it out? Still trying to locate this part. Babbit's has it but want 3x the amount to ship! Does the key just pull out of the housing?Maybe try the dealer?
 
i have written several posts on the removal, but your on the right track using a screw. drill it first or use a self drilling screw, no more than a #10, or 3/16. thread the screw in and pry the adaptor out. i use a slidehammer, but if the shaft is in the sled, you havent the room. you can actually drill using a bit slightly smaller than the adaptor, i like to start small and work my way up, being extra carefull not to mess up the shaft, and fatigue the adaptor enough that it will spin out, or you can pry it out. slidehammer is the quick way if the shaft is out.
 
That key should be available at any snowmobile dealer or repair shop.
