Hi everyone, first of all i am new to this site and it is a really great place. The information here is unbelivable!
I just bought a 2003 Yamaha Viper and when cleaning the carbs i noticed the sled has different reeds in it. Both outside cylinders have v-force 2 reeds and the middle cylinder has the stock yamaha reed. The person i bought it off broke a reed petal and just used the stock yamaha reed again, i want to know if this will harm the engine? It runs excellent except for a low end bog when you pin the throttle, but i think that's in the secondary because even the new belt is sitting low. After the initial bog it runs great and pulls hard. Will this hurt anything using different reeds? Thanks so much for your help!

not sure about hurting anything, but i can't imagine you'd get the full potential of the engine, they've probably got different tensions and probably sit at different depths, if it were mine i'd want a matched set

I hear rummors that v-force are know to work great but the reed petals crap out alot, and you need to change them alot. Bender told me on the phone that carbon tech work great, and they gave them a report of aprox 2hp gain and last longer. thats what Im running this year. I like the idea of less maintance and more riding

Thanks for you help guys, i will order all new reed petals since i do have the extra vforce 2 cage. Also should the belt be a bit high in the secondary? I put on a new one and its just a bit below. i think thats what's causing my bog when i hammer the throttle from a complete stop. Thanks.

yes should sit above the secondary a bit, look up setting belt deflection in the tech pages, (blue bar up top click on ty tech)
