Hey guys.
well i just bought at 99 srx 700. It ran good when i got it. I put a few tanks of gas threw it now it runs like crap.

i started it up and it ran good. 10 min later it sputtered then the temp light was flashing. I think 6 or 7 times. It ran ok for a bit then got worse as i drove. I would hit 6000 rpm then it would sputter then shut off like you pushed the kill switch. it did this about 8 times trying to get home. It ran ok tell i got the rpms up. The next day i took a look at it and couldn't find a problem. Took it out and i could only get 4000 rpm out of it . So i changed the plugs ( witch looked good)
Then it started right up and ran good. It is not showing any codes at all now. It runs fine at the lower rpms but when i get around 7000 rpm there is a miss. It gets worse as i give it more gas. The top speed i could get out of it was about 110kph feathering the gas.

This makes me mad bc i have only had it a few days and we just got a big snowfall!!!

any one have any ideas?

Wire rub through under your motor? Bad stator? dirty carbs? dirty powervalves?pulled through valve? check all of this and make sure you clean the carbs

My 98 did that last year and it turned out to be the stator! I hauled the whole motor apart thinking the crank update was not done but it was! So I put it all back together and bought a new stator and fired it in and way to go! but before you buy a new stator check everything and clean those carbs yourself!

Yessa

My 98 was f*****g up on me something like that around christmas time and after changing everything but the kitchen sink it was the stator 98 parts get old after 12 13 years you can take it out and do an ohm test on it and see for sure :nos:

You dont even need to take it out to test it!
Brown-Brown/red 392-479 ohms
Brown/Red- Black 77-95 ohms
Pickup White/red-White/Green 189-231 ohms
All are at 20 C

Did you check the ohms in the stator? I had that problem last year and I cleaned my carbs 5 times thinking I did something wrong but it was the stator

where to i check the wires for the stator??

well i had the carbs cleaned and they where spotless.
today took it for a spin after cleaning the valves. it ran good when i first started it up. I took it around the house a few times and it bogged down and died. half a pull and it started right up. Then i drove down the road to a fiends house. It was running really bad by this point like it was running on one cyl. I touched the pipes and the middle one was cold. i changed the plugs and it still didn't run right.

If i pull off the middle plug it doesn't change how it runs at all. now with one plug on the right or left cyl it runs. if i have one wire on the middle it wont. now if i change themiddle wire and put it on the right or left it will run fine.

I have no clue what is going on!

you check the stator by unplugging the harness from the motor , and use your tester on the diodes on the inside of the connector coming from the stator. just follow what combinations of wires and see the voltage that is able to circulate as I posted above

on the right side of your motor where your pull cord is there is 2 connectors inside a black rubber "boot" you will need to clean the wires to see which color they are! Do you need a manual?

You can download a manual its on the top of the threads now... pdf service manual please thread # 85... and you dont need to take off the pipes its between the carbs and the pipes by the motor

oh ya i have had that manual download.

i guess i will have to check out the stator. i will do that tomorrow.
thanks for your help!

so i started taking it apart today.
i didnt check the stator. i was thinking why is it only missing on one cyl?
the stator would cause all of them to act up.
well i pulled out the reed valve and the tip of one of the flaps was missing!!
