ok so this is a weird problem.i just bought my wife a 97 vmax 700 tripple... the thing starts right up and goes fine, but when you first start it up you half to keep it on half choke and give it slight throttle for like a min or so..and then you can go ride it...but if you turn the choke off and let it idle after about a min it will shut off.....the guy i got it from said a ''yamaha tech'' told him it had something to do with the rev limiter....and ''the way to fix it'' is to pop the hood and there are 2 wires wich he couldnt tell me or he didnt really know wich tro wires they were....but any ways he told me that there were 2 wires you have to unplug or cut and just swap them and it will fool the rev limiter or whatever...and it would fix it.....he said the guy told him it was a real common thing with the srx's and vmaxs is this really true guys and if so what are the wires i need to swap to fix it?

any help would really help

What he is talking about is the TORS, (throttle over ride system) and you can short it togerther to test but i would not leave it that way.

It is not a rev limiter but a safety over ride in case of a stuck throttle or frozen carbs, or cable.

The wires come from the carb rack and you can unplug and then plug them together to test and see if that is your problem.......if so it could very well be that you need to adjust your throttle free play.

You very well may have dirty carbs too..........

my 700 does the same the sled just needs time to warm up, either by blipping the choke on and off or to add more fuel or holding the throttle a smidge for a high idle for about 5 min once the sled is warmed up your good to go, keep the tors hooked up and working properly is the safe way to go like the other posts stated....
