2000 SXR SQUEELING at IDLE!

BTW, my 600 has been noise for a few rides allready, it seems like I know how to fix the problem, I just have been busy and lazy to get it done....I guess now I will have to pull my secondary and remove those stiking washers.

I rode a few miles with the squeakyness as well last year. I am happy that I spent the few minutes to fix it.

Starting last year apparently Yamaha 8DN belts are a bit wider now.

I have the same issue which started last year with a new belt. Belt squeel is almost gone now that I put some km on it. The primary was getting hot to touch when idling where the belt rubs in the center... I'll have to see if it's still like that this year.

Is this bad for the clutches?

No, intimidating since I never remove a clutch before. That's why I'm wondering how bad it can be for my clutches. Only have small belt squeel sometimes at idle now that the belt has some km.

well not the best for it,it's creating heat and unnecessary wear, remove belt, remove secondary, remove sims from bolts replace bolts, simple.

Even ac CAVEMAN can do it...... ;)!

I forgot to add I measured the high of the belt on the secondary 3 years ago when I got the sled. I was spot on. This is before Yam changed their belts.

It's the remove secondary I'm not sure. Doesn't the spring pop out or something?

no nothing flys off...just remove the belt, then the center bolt holding it on to the shaft i think 14mm,slide it off then do your stuff put it back on turq to 46 ft.lbs

Ok will give it a go this weekend. Thanks Daman.

Funny question. You think by doing this anything will be affected by a small amount. Either engagement or top speed? Something has to change since the secondary is not squeezing the belt as much...

Didn't get to it this weekend. My sled is in my shed out of town and it was to cold to work on. -15C... But not to cold to ride! Had a blast.

I notice it squeals too after a long ride. When I let go of the gas going downhill. Essentially the engine is at idle when this is going on.

How do I know if I have slippage after I remove the washers? I wouldn't want to loose acceleration or speed. I'm keeping up to all my friends new rides and I want to keep it that way.
