If you need a better motor in that frame, you need a different frame.

i remember seeing it written somewere that someone had put an artic cat 800 triple in a phazer. but i dont know how true that is. i dont think there would be enough room for the pipes
I thought I read something awhile back about people putting the SRV motors in them (535 Fanners)
are you looking for more power out of the phazer engine or do you just want a different engine...

If you put an SRV motor in you have to cut a big hole in the hood to clear the fan housing. I think Bender made a special phazer with the 570 exciter motor in it. Was that the Bender Terminator? or maybe the Bender Avalanche? not sure.
tried the 540 swap but the offset is different and you have to make engine mounts.how about a ported and piped phazer?

stinger440. I think it was called the Bender Terminator. A kid down the street from me has one. Funny thing is, he has now clue what he has. His dad gave it too him. I'm like GAH dude only if you knew!

this guy put in a 670 rotax motor in a phazer.....from the video looks to be a fairly decent fit!
670 rotax powered Phazer
670 rotax powered Phazer
well i already have a 90 phazer with a psi kit in it and now i bought one this summer so i wana try something different and i like the 670 rotax its badass and im workin on a deal on a 583 out of a formula z so im thinking im gona try that

Careful,...Mainly an exciter chassis in that video...not a Phazer...
yea thats what i thought to but a phazer and exciter are pretty close to the same size chassis arent they?

actually thats an exciter you can tell by the guages and hood vents.
installing a liquid engine in a phazer will be alot of work to mount the heat exchangers. your best bet would be to sell the phazer and buy an exciter...

so it is....but its not much work at all to add exchangers to a phazer or similar fan cooled sled...I guess if ur not to good with that stuff it would be alot of work!

agree with srv540, but it all comes done to one fact with belt drive. If you can properly align the clutches you can put any motor in any sled. Where you put the cooling is up to you.
yea im not too worried about the cooling system and i work at a machine and metal fab shop so i know alot of guys that can help me out and before i just put it in im gona use a clutch alinment tool to get it where it needs to be

So, along these lines...
I just blew up my phazer. The bitch is that I just spent $200 going through the track. $300 machine, got $300 in use out of it and it broke. Put another $300 into fixing it, got maybe $100 worth of use and it broke. Put another $200 into the track, took it out once, and the motor blew up the next time out. I was about to write it off, but...
Someone who owes me money has a totaled SRV that supposedly had a fresh motor before getting wrecked. Says the skis are messed up and the windshields broken, he doesn't know what else is wrong. I guess it's sat like a year. I told him i'd give him $200 if it looks decent. Well, i'll take $200 off what he owes me. Worst case, I can part it out.
But I was thinking I could take 2 machines and make 1. Probably just take the motor from the SRV and part out the rest. I'm sure i'll have more questions once I have both machines in front of me, but to start:
Sounds like the 540 is a single carb motor, phazer is twin carb. Can I adapt the twin carbs, or is the single a better setup?
Sounds like I'll have to fab up motor mounts to move the engine over. How far does it have to be moved over? Are there any pics out there of modified or fabbed mounts? Is this just an alignment issue?
Do I use the phazer clutch, or the SRV clutch?
Will the 480 fuel pump support the 540?
I will likely block off the oil pump and go pre-mix. What do I need to do for jetting? Are block of plates available or will I have to make something?
Also sounds like I'll need to cut up the hood. When I cut it, do I need to be concerned about keeping snow and such out of any particular areas around where i'm cutting? I suppose i could fab up a scoop or something but this is a beater and i'd just as soon leave a big hole in the hood.
Anything else to know? Is this a dumb idea? Would I be able to use Phazer parts to fix the SRV rather than just swap the motor? Would that be easier?

You can be opening a huge can of worms when you do swaps like this. I would just fix the SRV and ride it.

Well then, will the skis / front suspension / windshield off the phazer bolt up to the SRV? What about the track? That's the only way it's getting fixed - i'm about done buying sled parts for a while, and I know the phazer is cherry except the motor. And the general appearance, but that doesn't bother me.
I can handle a can of worms. Worst case, I end up with what I have now - two sleds to part out.
Right now, it's sounding like I just have to build a couple motor mounts, unbolt the hood, hook up power and fuel, and go. What am I missing?
