So, along these lines...
I just blew up my phazer. The bitch is that I just spent $200 going through the track. $300 machine, got $300 in use out of it and it broke. Put another $300 into fixing it, got maybe $100 worth of use and it broke. Put another $200 into the track, took it out once, and the motor blew up the next time out. I was about to write it off, but...
Someone who owes me money has a totaled SRV that supposedly had a fresh motor before getting wrecked. Says the skis are messed up and the windshields broken, he doesn't know what else is wrong. I guess it's sat like a year. I told him i'd give him $200 if it looks decent. Well, i'll take $200 off what he owes me. Worst case, I can part it out.
But I was thinking I could take 2 machines and make 1. Probably just take the motor from the SRV and part out the rest. I'm sure i'll have more questions once I have both machines in front of me, but to start:
Sounds like the 540 is a single carb motor, phazer is twin carb. Can I adapt the twin carbs, or is the single a better setup?
Sounds like I'll have to fab up motor mounts to move the engine over. How far does it have to be moved over? Are there any pics out there of modified or fabbed mounts? Is this just an alignment issue?
Do I use the phazer clutch, or the SRV clutch?
Will the 480 fuel pump support the 540?
I will likely block off the oil pump and go pre-mix. What do I need to do for jetting? Are block of plates available or will I have to make something?
Also sounds like I'll need to cut up the hood. When I cut it, do I need to be concerned about keeping snow and such out of any particular areas around where i'm cutting? I suppose i could fab up a scoop or something but this is a beater and i'd just as soon leave a big hole in the hood.
Anything else to know? Is this a dumb idea? Would I be able to use Phazer parts to fix the SRV rather than just swap the motor? Would that be easier?
