different motor in a phazer???

IF i remember correcly you cant get the 540 motor over far enough in the phazer chassis to get it to line up. been dere but it was years ago
 
What does it hit? How much does the motor have to move? Would moving the secondary clutch over a little help?

I'm going to pick this thing up anyway - I'm not confident enough that i'll get the cash if I don't take it as payment to turn it down. I'm sure once I actually see the sled a lot of this will become obvious. And then maybe i'll be looking to part it out or trade it for another phazer or a phazer motor.

I did a lot of internet searching last night and this thread had about as much information as any of them. There have to be a lot of people out there who have tried this, and hopefully a couple that were successful without pouring a bunch of money into it!

Clutching - It likely will have to have some changes, and the clutch parts you have from both clutches may not be right. Gearing will probably also need to be different - you may be able to mix and match gears - if they are the same - and then the chain length may have to be changed.

CDI box from the SR-V will have to be used and there will be wiring changes.

Exhaust - will have to be SRV muffler to match the motor. It may not fit in right and the mount may need to be changed.

Jetting may need to be changed. Moreso if the SR-V airbox will not fit in and you run without it.

Cooling air intake duct may not work the same. It should be ducted to outside air.

Tachometer.

Not saying that it can't be done or that you are wrong to do it, but to let you know some things to be aware of. Projects like that usually end up being much more complicated than they appear to be at first.

I just finished installing a Wildcat 700efi engine in my 92 exciter, but ya the exciter is a much better chassis to do a swap on. If you aren't prepared for all the unplanned events along the line, the long hours, tweaks, tuning & headaches; then don't even try it.. but all you need is tools, a decent welder, a good vise and alot of heart and you can make anything happen :) good luck with whatever you decide to try man. the 700 engine fit in my exciter beautifully.. and yeah the phazer/exciter chassis arent all that different but the phazers are really basic machines so when u are adding a bigger engine with l/c everything adds up and its a big project.. mine took a few hunder hours, but of course I smoke doobies and drink beers while im in the garage so I take my sweet time, and make everything look real nice ;) but ya! have fun!
 
I ended up just buying a wrecked phazer and rebuilding it with parts from my blown up one. The SRV is a runner now. That SRV doesn't turn for shit, though. New carbides might help but the ones on there are reasonably sharp and they don't do jack. May have to do with the studs in the track, though. It grips nice in a straight line, lifts the skis every time you nail the throttle. Runs out of steam just north of 70 though, I ended up with a touch more speed out of my phazer. Phazer is jetted fat and has premix and oil injection, to be on the safe side, so it's going to run slower than it should.

Came back and did a search on SRV jetting to see what I should do to make the SRV live a nice long life, and this thread popped up!
