Switching to Amsoil

Just bought this sled(02 viper) and the owner ran Yamaha lube. I want to switch to amsoil,do I have to empty the oil( if so how?)or just run it low and start using amsoil? Does it mix? Thanx!
 
I did the exact same thing when I bought my Viper two years back,I drained as much as the Yammalube out filled with Interceptor,no issues,smells better,and I hope it keeps the power valves cleaner.
I used the Yammalube in my chain saw.
BTW the Amsoil site says it mixes with everything,but don't make a habit of doing it, in so many words.
 
What's the best way to drain oil? Like to get most of it out, just cleaned and adjusted power valves. Thanks for the help!
 
I use the ole mouth siphon method for oil,gas,,,,,, should use a clear hose
 
i used my wifes turkey baster, jus dont get caught with your hand in the cookie jar......but my shop is heated and the oil was warm, dont know how how good that would work with cold oil in the tank.
 
Go to your local auto parts store and get one of these ,i have one and it works great,suck the old out then pour the amsoil in,OR just run it down to a very low but safe level then pour the ams in.
 
You won't have any problems mixing those two, there both synthetic right???
 
there have been theories about some oils not mixing with eachother and actually doing the opposite and causing separation which would cause a no oil time. Just theories and most bottles now say on them whether you can mix with other oils. Most say it's ok.
 
Run the bottle down to a reasonable level and add the Amzoil. That's what I did 4 years ago. No big deal.

i used 2 stroke oil mixer sucked it all out .I ordered amsoil online came out to only 2 dollors per liter more them yamalube and no smoke "
 
Like i posted above being there of the same brand and synthetic there would be no problems what so ever to mix,,you don't want to mix synthetic with conventional because your waisting your money and your not going to get the full benefits(better base stocks and additives)of the synthetic oil it's going to be diluted with the conventional.

thats the main reason....
 
Thanx guy's, I appreciate the help. The only reason I wanted to drain the Yamaha lube was that I heard it was junky oil. Didn't know Yamaha lube was synthetic,and just cleaned power valves. Wanted to run amsoil to keep power valves clean. :dunno:

yamalube isn't a bad oil and will work fine but is it the best you can offer your sled??? NO!, synthetics will do the job better and reduce wear more efficient over time.

it's not.... it's a simi synthetic,part synthetic, how much?? no one knows it could be 1% and be called a simi syn.
