2001 SRX700 Hard on Hyfax!

So I took a look at my hyfax today and noticed that they are half worn already! I just put these on to start the season and have only put on 217 Kms. I have read that these machines are hard on hyfax, but holy crap less than 500 kms (predicted) per set seems extremely low!
What is available for extra wheel sets? Mine has 2 outers on each side near the front of the rail, and this is where it is wearing the most-right before the wheels.
Can anyone help?? I am going to try loosening the track a bit more next week. I thought it was fairly loose already, but I will try more.
So far this SRX has not impressed me much!
 
id start by checking track tension. what type of snow conditions do you ride in mostly? ive never had an issue with premature hyfax wear with my SRX but i run my tracks on the loose side.
 
seem like u run your track with alots tension .... never had problem running mind for 3 year
 
I get 3 seasons out of mine. they seem to wear quick at first but once they get to a certain spot, they last a long time. I don't run extra wheels, but I do like to drop a ski off the trail once in a while to shoot snow onto the hyfax.
 
on my SRX third season..hyfax still looks new,hardly wear.In the SRX,it is pretty decent to.One spot ahead of the front idlers is a little worn more then the rest.Rest looks great.I installed the marginal wheel kit to up front which helps.
 
Raise your limiter straps and loosen the middle track shock spring. My 99 had over 2,000 miles on the original and were still half good when I sold and all I did was loosen the middle shock and raised the straps. I also agree with Carbon that they wear quick then slow down...

I also drill lube holes in my hyfax that collect snow. My 04 Viper S with a ripsaw had 3,000 miles with lube holes and the hyfax wore amazing. The holes can also collect sand and junk and possibly increase the wear so it depends on the conditions you ride in. For me and where I ride its a winner...
 
i agree with the guys above and I also run my track as loose as I can without any ratcheting. i've added the 5.35 wheels on the outside of the rails. i run the Viper shocks in mine and i have no slider issues. i check mine with a 11mm wrench from the outside, when it fits anywhere on the slides i then change them. I think 10mm is the minimum. i've got over 3500km on my 98 and they still have 4mm to go, should be good for this year now that it is a spare sled. :letitsnow
 
running the track the looser the better as long as you arent ratcheting.
bigger wheels help or people such as bruce at pioneer and others have kits to lower the stock wheels a little, or the add a wheel kits. fully clipped track helps alot or even having all windows open (more so if its alot of hard packed groomed trails). also next time you have the sliders off look to see right in that same spot it is wearing before the wheels, this is the most common spot and if someone wasnt paying attention and wore out the sliders and flat spotted the rail then usually it will wear a little quicker than normal. i usually get a new set at begining of each season, sometimes may not need them. and i ride alot and mostly hard packed trails here. they do wear fast at first like the others said. hope it goes better for you, i love srx's
 
If you ride a lot of hard pack, you can also install ice scratchers - ski mounted or running board mounted work best.
 
I Found Out That Aftermarket Hyfax Are Harder And They Dont Wear Like The Oem Ones And I Raised The Limit Straps Also And I Put On A Marginal Wheel Kit

I like this idea simple and is a good rule of thumb!! ;)! This year I put a pioneer performance hyfax saver kit on and I just put ski scratchers on and today riding partners nytro stunk of hyfax burning and mine were perfect. Dive for snow once in a while. Change wheels or get a kit.....you will be faster and it will be years before you change them!!!!Good luck
 
What do you mean by raising the limiter straps? Do you mean shorten them? Won't this increase ski pressure?
The conditions here have not been the greatest so far. We haven't had snow since Christmas, and what we do have is not that much.
I will keep an eye on them and I am also going to loosen the track up some.
