Did lots of work on the 02 Viper. Included in all my work is a bender 4x4 pipe and torque limiter. Went out for its maiden voyage today and I seemed to have gained about 500rpm over last year.Couldn't do to much testing due to lack of good snow or straight flat trails. On the few pulls I could get the engagement is good but it hits 9k and stays there. I didn't think that I would have this much gain in rpm with two extra mods. Belt is sitting about 1/16 above the secondary.
This is how its set up right now;
Primary-Grey spring
HC's with heel 2.3 mid 3.3 and tip3.3
Secondary-Red spring wound at 70
48/36 dalton helix
Ported by mrviper700
Stock gearing. stock jetting.
Just for fun, I will put on the stock pipe this weekend and see if it drops the rpms.

Check your belt and clutches, there may be worn parts.
Was it ported before the Bender pipe was added or done at the same time? Because the porting would do it .
From what ive read, this is normal. Increasing horsepower w/ out re-clutching will increase rpm.
Was ported last season. Talked to Don about the clutch setup. It was spot on.sideshowBob said:Was it ported before the Bender pipe was added or done at the same time? Because the porting would do it .
Went thru the clutches already before I went out. Regular maint. All was good. Normal wear on the helix buttons.Thats about it.

even pipes and jetting is quite a power gain and would throw off your clutches and pull more rpm. mabye try throwing a little more weight at the primary that will bring it down. 9000 is out of your peak power 8350 is where you want to bee for stock, some go a little higher that have alot of mods but only by maybee 200 rpm.
How much weight would I use in the tip of these HC's to bring it down to atleast 8500?

3 to 4 grams should do it

When i put my bender 4x4 on my 03 mtn it gained about 400rpm. It sits right at 9000, long pulls on hardpack it will hit about 9100.
What negative affects would dropping the wrap from 70 to 60 or even 50 to get the rpms down?
backshift will be worst..not suppose to control the rpm with the secondary wrap

You also may overshift by backing off the secondary wrap= not good.
Someone else asked above, did it gain rpm's from just the pipe, or from porting too? If it's just the pipe, that's a pretty good gain. Is that with the stock can?

Gains were after the pipe and torque limiter were installed. Stock silencer.
Gotto find me a clutch alignment and check to c-c and offset. If thats all good then I will go into the primary.
Was reading in some threads about HC tuning. One thread mentioned that with HC's one should not put weight in the mid.Mine right now has 2.3 heel 3.3 mid and 3.3 tip. Should I put a little more into the heel move the mid and load up the tip to control the over rev or just leave the heel and mid as is and just go after the tip? My engagment rpms are fine.
