Hi,
I was replacing the key and assembly for my speedo. I finally drilled out the shaft and got the unit out. Tapped the new one in and now the housing and spacer are to far away. My first attempt I drilled a screw in and was prying on it. I heard a pop and thought the metal around the bearing moved. I did not think much of it at the time thinking that the aluminum might have moved away from the bearing. I can't tell if I bent the aluminum or moved the shaft over. The bearing did not look bad at all-I was trying to fix the speedo because the speedo cable wore through on the frame and rusted tight. Now what?
I am a newbie what does the large nut on the outside of the bearing do?

Remove the key and try it. If it then goes on all the way, try turning the angle drive to line up the square hole with the key when you are putting it on. Or the key may not be going in far enough.

Sorry I was unclear. I can get the top bolt in but I think I screwed up the metal and popped it out of place when I was prying. The bearing was flush. Now the metal is pushed in. It is hard to get in there to work. I was going to try and get a pry bar in there but it is tight!

I will take one in the am. I think I will try to flip on it's side and see if I can get a better view of what is exactly behind there. Is there some sort of locking collar on the backside of the bearing? Anyone?

yes there is a lock collar held with a set screw, so in other words you caved the tunnel by the shaft?

Yes apparently so. I was trying to get the sppedo attachment out of the shaft I put a tapping screw in there. I pried on the screw, but must having been using the sheetmetal around the bearing as a pressure point and pushed it in.
Trying to add a picture-keeps saying too large? How do I make it small to send?

from the look with the nut there i would guess that the shaft is stepped and bearing is held by nut not lock collar on back and if there is no back plate then the tunnel is the locator plate if that is caved in you must pull it back as close as you can to where it was or it will put extra side pressure on the bearing and could fail quicker

All fixed. I jacked the sled up. Got under there with a pry bar and pop-the metal went back in place around the bearing. Thanks again for the ideas!!!
