First of all, this forum is GREAT.
Now, I got a "slight" problem with my SRX... It wont run like supposed
Won't start unless I either give it starting gas or full choke. And when it finally starts, it runs on one cylinder (MAG) and the idle is really low, about 900rpms.
The problem came when me and my friend were out on a short trip. It was pretty cold, about -22C, and the powder is really dusty, almost like ash. This first led me to believe that I had the infamous powder bog, but the problem didn't disappear after I got back on the trail. Instead, after about 3-4km it got even worse as I was getting it into the garage, and it wouldn't run by itself on idle.
So, got her into the garage and hoped it was just iced up somewhere. Let her be in the warmth overnight and came back the next day full of hopes. Tried to start her, low idle and then I got an exhaust bang (what's the proper term for that?) and it stopped running. Tried to start her again, wouldn't even start then. Got sick of her attitude towards me, so I yelled at her a bit more and left her in the garage one more night. Next day I checked the spark plugs, they all had spark, and none of them had run lean or rich. Checked the compression, good and even on all three cyls. Opened the airbox, a tiny amount of water in the bottom, about half a teaspoon in every chamber. The gas is brand spanking new, I went to the gas station with her just before we went out riding that day.
WHAT THE
is wrong? It's typical, been about -20 for a month, and now when it's finally gotten warmer, she decides to call it a day and take a vacation. Anyway, I'm gonna clean the carbs tomorrow I think, could they be the problem?
Lastly, a few quick questions: How do you disconnect the fuellines to the carbs, just pull them out..?
Also, the tube leading to the prewarming of the carbs, can they just be disconnected too? Here's a pic of the tube I'm talking about..
Lastly, the gaskets to my power valves seem to be broken, especially on the mag and pto side. Can that have anything to do with the problem? Seems very unlikely though, but no harm in asking right? Here's pics of what I'd describe as a rather big leakage from the pvs.

I would say number 1 is to check your carbs over really good firstly.Check float height also.Is your fuel pump working????

Well, I suppose the pump is working as all three plugs get wet. If that isn't telling me if it's working, how can you test it?

I think it sounds like a carb cleaning would be the best place to start, I didn't see if you mentioned, but are you getting spark to all 3? If not the carbs, and if you have spark, I would likely check for rub through on the harness, clean the PV's, new gas, etc... start with the basics... but hey I am new here so what do i know lol

All three spark, pv's were cleaned 40 miles ago, gas was about 2hrs old... Hope the carbs will give me some result

looks like u need a new o ring in powervalve housing

exactly....replace that rubber oil seal in the power valve housing. that leak will be fixed then.

Yeah, that much I too am sure of, but I'm correct when saying that has absolutely nothing to do with the problem I'm experiencing, right?

not pv issue..either carb or electrical..start digging in to it.
My powervalves leak like crazy also. I changed all the seals and gaskets except for the small oring on the cable. They still leak when cold. I am going to try replacing the last small oring and hope that fixes it.
Also, I would start with carbs, good luck.

Make sure the carbs are syncronized, I have never had to sync mine (and I would hate to have to as it looks hard) but you never know.
If its not your carbs turn out fine check compression.
You might need to replace the plugs and wires. I had a perfectly good spark plug that would not spark all the time. I would have the sled running on 2, pull the wires off (with rubber coated plyers) to find out which one was not firing. I am not sure if it was the plug or the wire but it runs fine after new plugs.
