have a 97 vmax sx and loosened the track to change sliders ...after changing the sliders and tightening the track abit it sounded like the track was ratcheting so I tightened the track but it still sounds like it is...no matter how tight or loose track is it still sounds same way.....then I noticed that the bolt( if you are at the back of the sled the one on the right that tightens back axle) was very loose and then came off....looks to me like it is broke perhaps...how long should that bolt be, just acouple inches ?..can not seem to get it back the in....guess I have 2 issues, any advive?..Thanks where is my old pal Damoin??..lol..Diceman

if it is broke,or the collar it goes into is cracked..you got a job on your hands to replace it.This means removing the rear axle to get the old one out and new one in.Sorry to hear this happened.I have had similar experiences with things on my sled.I was going to tighten my limiter's more, put wrench on the nut and SNAP..there goes the section of the tread and nut, falls down on me.Now I had 2 extra thread adjusters so I was good.Same as the back adjuster,I have extras. You learn in this sport it is wise to have a lot of extras of things, cause eventually something will snap.Good luck and let us know unless it is a fix right on the sled.

Thanks.....so should that bolt come all the way out?...I am thinking maybe that is what I am hearing when I think the track is ratching, could that be it?....so your thinking a new or used axle and bolt?...Thanks again ps- can the axle be changed without taking out suspension??

hey man....well I guess that is what I am talking about? Its the bolt that you loosen before you adjust track....the bolt that goes through both back wheels.....so the bolt should not be about an inch and abit long..lol.....so guess I am pooched, what would be a slution to this?..is there a way to get the rest of the bolt out without ripping everything apart?....Thanks Damandaman said:If your talking the axle bolt?, that goes right through it's a long solid bolt.

Not good these are skid bolts, holds skid to the tunnle, start checking the side of the tunnle for missing bolts. should be 3 per side.

do you mean the bolts that are on the side just below the seat that if you want to drop the suspension you take them out???/because this is not where this bolt came from.....this came from the bolt that goes in through one of the two back idler wheels, right at the back of the track???...will get ya a pic of it if needed.....Diceman

other side looks the same,a bolt came out?
When doing the sliders, did you make them the same length and did you taper them at the back. If you cheat and don't taper them and if you make them a little longer (even a 1/4" longer) it will make a racheting sound. The tracks clips bounce on the slider as the track turns the radius.
As for that bolt, Hmmm. It looks like it was been stripped out. I thot that was a solid axle.
Just looked in the micro fiche online. It shows one long bolt.
You may have been too forceful and tore that bolt out when lossening the axle.
