Was out rideing the srx yesterday when all of a sudden things came to a grinding hault. The r/h rail cracked and brokeoff causeing the slider to get torn off and caught up in the track. It failed on the righthand rail just fwd of the front shock about 10" of the fwd r/h rail and front small boggy wheel were on the side of the trail. I pulled the slider out from the track but was unable to limp to the next road due to the track clips hanging up on the jaged edge of the remaining rail makeing the track unable to turn. I rode my wifes sled to the nearest house and a nice man was kind enough to lend me a file so i could "radius" the jagged edge a bit and limp to the road.
I did not hit anything hard so im sure it was a stress crack i did not catch earlyer in my inspections of the sled. I found and bought a stirpped (no shocks boggy wheels etc..) skid on ebay for 70.00 shipped. I was just going to change the r/h rail when it shows up.
I was hopeing somebody here could give me any tricks to make changeing a bit easyer. Thanks

Just had mine welded in the same spot about a month ago, foound it after got home from a big race, boy that would of hurt if it let loose on the track huh?

Bingo!!!!!!!! Same exact spot. I did not state this in my first post but a guy down the road from me was parting out a srx. I popped into his yard and asked if he had the skid left. He invited me down to his shop to have a look. My jaw droped to the floor when i saw his skid with the same issue as mine failed skid rail broken in the same spot. WTF?? Glad it did not happen at high speed. My SRX is new to me butt it is in awesome shape other than the cracked rail. Im going to fix it and move on i guess. Hey at least it made it out of the woods under its own power. Not on the side of the trail with a skidont and a blown piston. I see enough of that around here. Thanks for the help. Im sure that ill have some questions while doing the job ;)!

check that part of the rail,if the hyfax was run till wore through it could have worn into the "T" on the bottom of the alum rail making it thin and weak thus breaking.

this is not very common...

Here a 3 pictures of how I just repaired and reinforced mine. They my not display too well I should have taken the pics before I painted it black. I added two gusset plates on the top to tie the middle and outer tubes together. I grit blasted the W arm which revealed 2 small cracks, I inspected all the welds. I TIG welded all the joints which are known to have problems wiith a high strength filler rod. I added 3/16" thick x 1" wide bars from top to bottom on the bottom of all 4 tubes.

mine towed my 700 half mile with 2 riders and than 40 miles back to truck by my self at midnight ,,,,,,never had a clue ......just that it was real wiggley in the rear just thought it was conditions .......didnt discover it til next day and that was cause it was on the trailer and i walked past and it cought my eye.......i got a old skid with a rail i am using but otherside wore thru at some time and someone replaced the part that holds slider on ......about 10 inches of it and rite were they stoped welding .....CRACK ......not sure if heat from welding did it or weakened it .....personally i would get a new rail 40 bucks or so if you look around ......
