I have a 2001 SXR 700 that would burn your hands off. This weekend as we were riding in sub zero weather, my daughter complained her hands were cold. I felt the grips and thumb warmer, and they were just barely warm. The fuses are ok, both dials were up to max. I checked the ground and it was clean. On the same day, when I started it up, the lights and instrument panel didn't work even though I had enough rpm's. Shut it off and restarted it then lights and guages worked fine. By the end of the weekend, no temp out of anything. I'm not sure where to start. I'm thinking I need to replace the two relays by my left foot but looking for someone who knows more than I for imput.

start checking for power with a test light or meter, sounds like you have some rub through issues somewhere.

The engine electrical harness which runs directly under the engine, has a tendency of rubbing and shorting out. This can definatly be some of your problem. Remove the carbs and slide the main harness forward and aft to check. I had this happen on mine last winter. easy fix. Al

Did you get to the bottom of this? My warmers are mysteriously cold too...

There was also a recall on the warmer relay. Don't rule that out either. Mine have been cold as hell since I put the mx aluminum bars on. They act as a wicked heat sync.
