my buddy and his family are heading out to winter park, CO. in march. they want me to come along with them to ride. its gona be a 2 week trip of a lifetime. my buddy has a m1000 162 so he's so excited to go out. the only thing im worried about is riding a stock 2002 sx viper in colorado. i've ridden mostly everywhere in michigan and some canada riding. i have plans of going 136 this summer. for anyone whos ridden a viper in colorado, what do i have to do to get my sled as ready as possiable for the trip?? what should i be expecting as well as worried about riding out there?

I talked to some guys at the Novi snow show from out that way and they about laughed at me about taking my 136" out there. If you just ride groomed trails thats one thing, but powder riding is the biggest attraction for most going out west.I have heard of the rare occasion were the snow was fairly set up and then you could go wherever but, who knows on that.Sorry to rain on your parade but, I have been consistently told to rent a mountain sled or buy one for riding out there.

Take your own, sled, do not rent Waste of money renting and you won't be happy. I moved to Grand Lake Co in 91 and took my standard track Exciter, studded stock track. Had a blast for two years on that sled. Yes you will get stuck, but that is the fun of it. You will have to rejet and reclutch, possible regear. Winter Park is a great place to ride, Frasier also has many good trails as I remember. I am also contemplating of taking all of ours out West over spring break. When I was out in Grand Lake, 136" phazers were perfect to ride, light weight, easy to get unstuck. Al

Contact Tom Hartman at Hartman Inc. He has tons of Yamaha experience and can help you make the most of your trip out there, especially if you buy what you need to dial it in from him. He's been doing it for 20+ years in the mountains of Idaho and knows his stuff, he's who I bought my 136" kit from and I'm very satisfied, give him a call.
