i have a sx 97 700 . the center cylinders plug comes and goes, i think its the center one. i cleaned the carbs and found nothing .and put new plugs in.the sled will sit and idle fine ,ride it for a time,( long or short) and it would not idle . when this happens it hard starting. then every thing is fine. new plugs help when this happens,it ran fine last year. are these sleds known for bad coils? cdi boxes? the back of the cdi looks funny not melted but is ruff maybe thats the way they are i dont know. also the orange wire to the center coil looks like it way to short its stock but looks short. up on top end it runs good. i would swear the low end jet was pluged but they all clean help

The rough stuff on the back of the CDI is factory. Its the goo that protects the electronics. If you have one bad coil then none of the plugs will fire. They are wired in series. I would check for a wire rub thru under the engine. You could also test the stator. I went thru 3 on my 97.One OEM and two used.

Make sure the plug caps and wires are not loose. I had that happen last year, and chased it all season until I noticed that the one plug wires had come loose in the coil. I put new boots while I was at it. If they are loose at the coil cut just the bad stuff off and clean out the coil end and use some epoxy to glue the wire back in secure.

when my stator took a poop it started out intermitent some time it would run good and other times it would sound like its running on two plugs finaly it would not rev over 6000 rpm. high speed coil on the stator whent out.

Check resistance on plug wire caps should be about 5 ohms

plug caps should read 5K ohms .... not 5 ohms............when they are bad they will read like 5Meg...or at least mine did.
