what do i need to do to increase engagement rpm, short of running shims. 8dn20, 4.5 in pivot, 5.5 in tip, ysy. Added shims but it didn't changs much & i dont want to overpower the spring with more shims. Will removing weight in pivot hole increase engagement. grabs at about 3,800 now & peak rpm is fine.

had the www in there already, & it wont change the engagement, it has the same preload as the ywy- 45 #. preload is what sets engagement, but 45 is about the strongest stock preload.

Hey sorry,, in your first post you said YSY was in there,, ( 10# LESS). at 35....

sorry bout that, must have hit the wrong letter, I don't own a ysy, my bad. So what do I need to do to get engagement higher. is everybody on vacation tonight.

Make sure u have correct belt installed and clutches are clean and in proper operating condition. Do you have fresh new springs??? Primary and secondary....

The clutches couldn't be cleaner, deflection is right, setup is spot-on, other than engagement. I just want to know what other than spring preload controls engagament, as in will removing weight from pivot area control this???

Notching??

I don't know if it's still done but I would imagine it's the same as heel clickers(I have never seen them). Experiment with a notch in the face of the weights, it will have to overcome the resistance of the notch to engage. You will want to get the notch right and then add the weight that was removed back in when you get it right. Works great, holds off on engaging then once it's in you can actually drop to a lower RPM than engagement. Best of both worlds, like a stall converter with lock up.
