Hey guys,
I just got off the phone with a buddy. He has a 1998 srx 700 as well. He had a mild trail port done, and they shaved the heads a small amount and kept the squish angle stock. He wants to add a base gasket and shave the heads more. He asked me if he shoud do it. I told him I would see what the TY guys would do. He has the extra base gasket already, and is getting ready to bring the heads in to have them shaved. I told him to wait until I get back to him.
Now what should he do?

THAT WORKS NICE ON THE 98. LIKE YOU POSTED HE WILL NEED TO HAVE HEADS RE-CUT TO BRING BACK COMPRESSION. NOW HOW MUCH DEPENDS ON WHAT HE IS DOING WITH THIS SLED. AND WHAT FUEL HE WANTS TO USE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

yup that works nice, i got basicly the same done to my wifes 98'. race logic porting with 3 base gaskets and .030 off the heads,.020 for the base gaskets and another .010 to bump compression a little.still gives most 800's a run for there money.

NICE SET-UP BUD. 3:16 (yammie tony)9801srx said:yup that works nice, i got basicly the same done to my wifes 98'. race logic porting with 3 base gaskets and .030 off the heads,.020 for the base gaskets and another .010 to bump compression a little.still gives most 800's a run for there money.
Ok I told him to get it ported more by my cousins. But he is a little short on cash. He just did the rings on his srx.
Now whatabout my sled? I have a lake port and case done too, heads are milled and squish angle is 13 degrees. Would it be worth anything to the same to my 98? I have to do pistons and ring in a month.

hey
He should check the squish and compression to see what he has first of all..
Depends on his compression and squish..What's it at now
If you add a base gausket and plain off the thickness of your basegausket on your head your squish will stay the same but your compression will come up a bit...
You prob want your squish between 55-57 thou or your stock squish is prob around 60 thou and your compression between 120-135 p.s.i for trail riding pump gas..
What's the reason for doing this for more compression??
IF I'm saying the wrong thing please stop me now...

He wants to change port timing, and shave the head to tighten the squish and make up for the loss compression by raising the ports.
never see result on dyno but i'm not sure its good ...u will need to figure out all the port timing change
I've heard it gains 5-6HP on a stock 98. But since its already ported it might gain a little more on top of the porting.

it depends how much the exhaust port has been raised from the previous port job. if the exhaust port was raised alot, then i wouldn't suggest stacking anymore gaskets, or any for that matter. you need to sit down and figure out the port timing now, to see what that change will be, after the addition of another base gasket or two. nik, if you give me specs from cylinder deck to exhaust port roof, and let me know the total # of base gaskets being used, i can figure out the port durations for you and blow down time.
