Another Viper starting question,,sorry,,

I posted a coulple of weeks ago,and got some great replys,so I figured my 8-10/12 second crank time when overnight cold in about 15 F weather is good.

Sunday,at -23F it took about 30-40 seconds,thank God I had a new batt.
Fresh high octane with a bit of dry gas.
Thrott,choke,oil pump cables are set perfect,carbs are clean with air mix screw at 1 7/8.
Question: when the starting passage is open with the choke on full,is the air mix screw still in play?? Seems to me my engine is waiting for fuel when cranking. Maybe open the screws to 2?

Perhaps a Pony starter would help :) :).

Sin...23 bellow is f*cken cold man!!!! be lucky the old girl will even turn over!

if no idle hang leave it there,choke within spec 2mm play? run it,i bet it lights good at say 10 to 20deg above?

thx daman ,o it starts fine at 15 above,choke w/in spec. runs wicked.
Hang,,,from close to wot down to idle in couple of steps just above idle,but within 6/7 sec at 1800 or so.

leave it?

yep
still cranking hard at say 40 sec, I just feel it should have hit by then.

Have I been reared too much with four strokes?

just 2-stroke nature perhaps.

-35c or -31f my Viper takes a bit to get going. I hold the starter for 30 sec at a time. Usually starts halfway on the second 30 sec try. Also, when its that cold I pull the motor over a couple of times before I hit the starter. Seems to help.

sin try this,next time your done riding kill it with the choke,then next time starting it in that type cold it may start faster for ya.

Oh yea good idea,give it a little juice to go to bed with.
Mostly concerned with overheating the starter,probably wouldn't happen below zero anyway,,,,,,,,thx
